Bristol-based excess are back with a brand new series of collaborative 4-track releases hoping to forge unique and interesting productions from some of the label's favourite artists.

Launching this series, Bristol native and head honcho of the Softcore imprint, Portway, delivers "Swanee"; a fierce, driving track merging solid electro grooves with swarming low end pressure that’s ripe and ready for the dance.

Spanning 140, half-time jungle and leftfield bass XS001 sees excess live up to their "anybpm" mantra.

Off the back of a stunning multi-genre release on Bristol-based label Out of Sorts, mod-r continues his foray into new musical styles in 2022. With an impressive backlog of releases on Out of Sorts, childsplay, Shubzin, CAROUSE, Belek Records, Jerry Horny, Hyperdome Records, Hang Tough, Angels Gun Club and his own imprint Meld Records, mod-r has developed outstanding technical abilities allowing him to produce tracks spanning electro, breaks, jungle and percussive styles. His EP on Gimme A Break Records broadens the Aberdeen-based producer’s repertoire further by exploring the recently revived UK Garage/Breaks crossover with Obatalla.

mod-r - Carnegie's Brae EP (Clips)

West Coast mainstays @dannygoliger and @justin-jay bring a slamming, club-ready collaborative release to Scuffed Recordings on the ‘Sticky Rice’ EP.

Danny and Justin have been releasing music together since 2020, when the two teamed up for a track on their own Fantastic Voyage imprint. Since then, the Los Angeles based artists have collaborated on tracks on Dirtybird and Childsplay, marking them out as a team to be reckoned with.

Alongside their collabs, Danny has appeared as a solo artist on labels like clip.art, art|werk and Moving Castle, while Justin has had a storied career appearing on labels as varied as Time Is Now, Suara, and Pets Recordings along with being a longtime member of the Dirtybird camp.

Now the two join forces on Scuffed Recordings, with a release including two collabs and a solo track from each artist.

From the outset, the duo wears their UK influences on their sleeves, taking in breakbeat grooves, rolling bass, and upfront percussion. Over the course of the two collabs and two solo tracks, Danny and Justin gleefully tear through an array of genres and influences – whether that’s electro, techno, UK garage, breaks, or IDM, they bounce off each other effortlessly to form a concise and impactful club EP.

This is a project initiated by the team at the Kyiv based cultural institution ∄ with the aim to provide financial, humanitarian and logistical support to the musical and cultural community that has been facing life-threatening challenges since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

There may have been expectations, but I couldn’t have hoped for a better way to release my album. A lot has been done so far, and I’m endlessly grateful to Alissa for joining the process — helping translate visions I could only shape in music into a clear and powerful visual system.
Just like the fishing boat on the cover, waiting for its catch, we took our time to form and deliver this concept in a way I could never have imagined. A simple thank you doesn’t feel enough, but I do HOPE you’ll love the artwork as much as I do.

Hope marks the 10th and final fragment of Human — now fully alive on SoundCloud and Bandcamp. And yet the journey continues. I can’t wait to celebrate it with you at the launch party on 26.09 in Fonoteek, this Friday.
