"2015 seems to be a huge comeback year for R&B as a genre, while at the same time genre lines are becoming more and more blurred everyday. A new wave of artists find themselves combining rap, with R&B vocals, dance tempos, or even half-time, trapped out drum patterns. 

Enter Portland Producer, Neill Von Tally and Portland via LA vocalist, The Last Artful, Dodgr and their new collaborative effort Fractures. Just under 9 minutes of play time, the term collaboration is definitely not used lightly for this 3-track release distributed by former NBA star Martell Webster's new label, EYRST. 

While Dodgr approaches every instrumental with an ever evolving flow, stylistic delivery, and standout tone, she also importantly knows when and where to let Neill's soundscapes breathe, giving added life to every song. At times very dark and moody, Fractures takes the listeners on a roller coaster ride of emotion and energy. From the bouncy Slick Devious featured track, "InDemand" to the reflective, spiritual closing theme "Foreclosure," Neill and Dodgr truly achieve a unique vibe on this project that leaves listeners wondering what's next for these two artists.

Meet our most recent signee - The Last Artful, Dodgr.  Possessing one of the most unique voices out there, we were instantly drawn to Dodgr's one-of-a-kind style of rap singing when we first came across her music in late 2013.  Born in L.A. and currently residing in Portland, Dodgr is actually our first artist on the label to live in the same city as us.

Compiled in this playlist is her new collaborative release, Fractures, with producer Neill Von Tally, & some of our favorites from her past collaborations.

Expect much more from Dodgr coming in 2016 on Fresh Selects.

Kill Them With Colour’s inspired remixes of a diverse range of artists including ZHU, Raury, Kendrick Lamar, Marian Hill, Zella Day, Lana Del Rey, A$AP Rocky and Notorious B.I.G. alongside genre-hopping and deftly produced original tracks have notched up over 8 million combined views and listens on YouTube and Soundcloud, making him a mainstay in the Hype Machine charts with Hype M Radio listing KTWC’s remix of Ariel Pink’s ‘Round and Round’ as the #9 overall remix that year. Most recently, his original song ‘Always Somethin’ garnered worldwide success, tallying over 1 million plays on Soundcloud and drawing coverage from THUMP, Complex, Hypetrak, Earmilk, Indie Shuffle, Hilly Dilly, Do Androids Dance and DJ Mag to name just a few.

His debut single proper, ‘Get High’ is a huge statement of intent, opening with rolling trap snares and a rousing female vocal before a UK flavoured 4x4 beat takes to the floor. "Today I’m super excited to premiere the latest release from The Last Artful, Dodgr, Jelly Hunt! The LA native caught my attention with an earlier release titled Squadron, on which she captivated me with her versatile and addictive sound.

The track was crafted by super producer, Neill Von Tally, a resident of Portland based label, EYRST, who The Last Artful, Dodgr joined forces with this year. The song is a fictional take on events from Dodgr’s childhood, “The song follows my brother and I on a car ride through LA that eventually goes awry.” Von Tally speaks on how the song was created, “The recording process included taking field recordings in LA as well as in Portland. We really tried to tell the story with every sound in the song as well as her lyrics.”

"Portland stand up. Last night Aminé went on Fallon and delivered a beautiful, powerful performance of "Caroline," and he had some more Portland artists with him on backup vocals. One of those artists was The Last Artful, Dodgr, who has her own announcement to make today with "Oofda."

The song [Oofda] is the first single from The Last Artful, Dodgr and producer Neill Von Tally's upcoming album Bone Music, out in early 2017. We already knew the L.A.-born, Portland-based artist could spit, and we heard hints of her melodic delivery on songs like "Squadron" and "Jelly Hunt," but here she sings throughout in her raw, raspy, unmistakable voice.

Bone Music is both sonically and thematically cohesive, with a central narrative of a blue collar worker struggling through both work and a traditional relationship. This song in particular, Neill Von Tally explains, "is about the relationship our main character is in and the struggles that plague traditional long-term relationships, especially those strained by stressful work environments and a lack of monetary stability." - Pigeons & Planes (@pigeonsandplanes)

In the summer of 2013, a then struggling artist who calls herself The Last Artful, Dodgr decides to quit her job and pursue music full time. She writes a song about how when (note: not "if") she gets on Sway In The Morning, she'll "rip it to shreds" & how her career will proceed to take off from there. 

In November of 2016, she gets her shot on the coveted radio show she had wished for, and she does, in fact, rip it to shreds. 

Today, we give you the song that made it happen.
