OPEN PORT CLUB mix series

Originally from Milan, Paquita Gordon is now based in Mallorca, and has been active in Europe, including a residency at the Terraforma festival.
After I listened Paquita Gordon's DJ for the first time, I went to listen to her DJ whenever I could. Due to the pandemic, I haven't been able to do so for a year, and our OPC mix series has also taken a year off. I am very happy to be able to restart again with this mix that she prepared for OPC. Here's a window into her world as she delves and explores different kinds of music.

Q1. How and where was the mix recorded? Could you tell us about the idea behind the mix?
The mix is realized at my studio with the use of two Technics 1210 turntables, two Shure needles, an Ecler mixer and a Zoom digital recorder on 14 April 2021. It is composed by a selection of electronic dub and downtempo records from the last thirty years, taking the listeners into a deep sonic adventure.

Q1. How and where was the mix recorded? Could you tell us about the idea behind the mix?
I recorded it at home using a turntable, an e&s mixer and ableton. I wanted to listen through to music I had come across recently and dig into the tracks deeper. I leaned more into the trippier sounding tracks with really nice sonics and "world-building" characteristics.

Q1. How and where was the mix recorded? Could you tell us about the idea behind the mix?
　
I recorded it at my studio in Montreal. I selected music that are for me sooting in these psychotic times we going through collectively. Im also going to Brazil soon, always loved music from Brazil very much. In that mix there’s some from the 70s and some new electronic music from Numa Gama, a producer from Rio de Janeiro who is very inspiring to me and that i will meet soon.

Q1. How and where was the mix recorded?  
The mix was recorded in my studio in Hong Kong, on 2x cdj 850s, 1x Technics 1200 and my back up Technics SH-DJ1200 mixer (my main Allen & Heath Xone broke down at the last minute)! Also, the eqs and cross fader on the Technics crackle (from too much scratching and twisitng knobs) so I could only use the line faders. Its good to have a challenge sometimes!

香港にある僕のスタジオで2 台のCDJ 850、1台のTechnics 1200 とバックアップに用意していたTechnics SH-DJ1200を使ってレコーディングしたよ(いつもメインで使うAllen & Heath Xoneが直前に壊れてしまって)！しかもTechnicsのイコライザーとクロスフェーダーにガリが出て(スクラッチとノブの回しすぎで)、チャンネルフェーダーしか使えなかったんだ。たまにはトラブルもいいよね、なんて。

Q1. How and where was the mix recorded? Could you tell us about the idea behind the mix?
This mix was recorded in our studio in Melbourne. Our idea was to strengthen the connection we have formed with the Japanese scene in the past few years by choosing music exclusively from Japanese and Australian artists. We also included a few unreleased tracks from Butter Sessions that feature both Australian and Japanese artists. It kind of captures how we might DJ in a longer set but condensed to just over an hour. Jumping up from more ambient sounds to house and then techno and then winding it down again.

レコーディングは僕たちのメルボルンのスタジオで行ったよ。このミックスを通して、この数年間に日本のシーンと築いたつながりや体験を強めたいと考えていて、そのために日本とオーストラリアのアーティストの音楽だけを選んだんだ。Butter Sessionsからまだリリースされていないトラックの中から、この二国のアーティストが作ったものもいくつか入ってる。僕らがロングセットでやることを1時間ちょっとに圧縮したようなミックスになってるよ。アンビエントからハウスに、ハウスからテクノに盛り上がってまた戻っていくような、そんな感じだよ。

it was recorded at home during the first spring thunder storm. lots of rain and lighting. very beautiful. 
my daughter was sleeping for the first half, then she woke up and danced around with her mom. we dance a lot at home.
mixing at home is mixing for my ladies, which often means love song.

Q1. How and where was the mix recorded? Could you tell us about the idea behind the mix?
The mixtape is specially made, it is not a recorded mix. The idea is to show some how my influences, mixed and mushed up with my music, also other artists from other regions like Peru and Ecuador I mostly included tracks from my latest release "Tierra de King Coya" as well as La Yegros (King Coya's production) and some remixes I did last year.

Q1. How and where was the mix recorded? Could you tell us about the idea behind the mix?
This mix was recorded at one of our HAND parties, we recorded it on a Bozak with a 4 band isolator on the master output, no eq per channel…keeping it simple :) we also use some dorrough meters to keep the levels relatively constant.
The idea is to basically capture and hopefully express some of the magic we often experience at Have A Nice Day with the wonderful crowd and vibes. I think there’s something special that will always be felt in a mix if it is recorded at a party with 200 people enjoying themselves and certain freedoms instead of if it's recorded with us alone in a studio or in our living room.

これは僕たちのHANDパーティーでレコーディングされたんだ。シンプルな方がいいからイコライザ―は使わず、Bozakとアイソレーター４つをマスターアウトに、レベルを出来るだけ一定に保つためにdorrough meterを使って録音したよ。
ミックスを作っていく上で僕たちはHANDでよく体験する魔法のようなものを表現したくて、200人以上の人が最高に楽しんでる中レコーディングされたこのミックスは普段スタジオで作ってるものと違って、時間が経ってもずっと特別に感じられるものになっていると思うよ。

Q1. How and where was the mix recorded? Could you tell us about the idea behind the mix?
The title of the mix is "Time Transmission."
This is a keyword that came from the subtitle of my party, "Archiv." It's a techno mix, and I recorded this imagining how the music sounds like its bending the axis of time, bringing that feeling of connecting to the future to the audience.
This mix was recorded home with my recently updated gears. I wanted to bring out its best into this mix, so I used ALLEN&HEATH XONE:92 4ch to speed it up, and the looping feature from Pioneer XDJ700 to extract the smallest details. I put my full effort, so this can become something that can represent me regardless of my changing styles.

ミックスのタイトルはTimeTransmission”です。
僕が主催するパーティ「Archiv」のサブタイトルでもあるキーワードです。
Techno Musicで、本来持つ時間軸が歪んで、未来に繋がる感覚を届ける気持ちで録音しました。使用機材を最近刷新したばかりの自宅スタジオで録音しました。
可能な限りそのポテンシャルを活かすために、ALLEN&HEATH XONE:92の4chを使いミックスのテンポを早めたり、Pioneer XDJ700のループ機能でミニマル部分だけを抽出したりを試しました。自分のプレイスタイルが刻々と変化する中で、このミックスが一つの代名詞になるように、気持を込めてレコーディングしました。
