Artifact is a Wiltshire born, Bristol based house producer whose music we’ve hosted and featured here before. Associated with labels like Local Action and Deadplate he’s been a little bit quiet of late, but as this promotional mix made ahead of his Room One debut at FABRICLIVE next week (where he'll be playing alongside Basement Jaxx and Jess Rose) proves, he’s very much been getting his head down and working hard on his craft fitting a new production alongside tracks by BRSTL enigma, Samuel, MATRiXXMAN and Tom Budden.

This week's Crack Mix comes via Italian DJs Dirty Channels. The dynamic duo, made up of longtime collaborators Simone and Leme, here take us on an introspective voyage through the aural terrains that have influenced their prolific sets over the years. On this sonic flight, disco nostalgia is intertwined with old-school house and Detriot techno grooves, culminating in an atmospheric ascent into the funk-laden skies of the Pastaboys mentees.
After cultivating renowned solo careers as DJs and producers, Dirty Channels began their symbiotic journey together in 2007, landing tracks on infamous labels as Glitterbox / Defected and Classic Music Company. You can catch a Dirty Channels set at prestigious event spaces such as Hï Ibiza and Polifonic festival, or at their residency Take it Easy in Milan, party and record label run alongside longtime friends Bugsy and DJLMP.

The pair behind “Watchin’ Out” have curated this ebullient mix for the disco deep-cut dwellers and the tech-house loop diggers alike, featuring two of their new tunes into the tracklist. Get tuned in.

Detroit-based producer, singer, and percussionist Alton Miller has been playing a fundamental role in defining House Music for over three decades. Born in Chicago and raised in Detroit on Stevie Wonder, Santana, Parliament Funkadelic and the Philly Sound. Alton’s early roots in soul music led to an affinity for clubbing and the perfect storm of music, dance, and skill that is required to create it. Alton opened the legendary club The Music Institute, in 1988, along with his like-minded friends Chez Damier and George Baker. He has released music on some of the best independent labels in the industry such as Detroit renowned Planet E and Mahogani Music and Europeans Defected and Neroli Records. Prolific producer, Alton Miller continues to further his musical endeavours with releases on labels, including his own InnerMuse Recordings and Music Institute Records. Since 2019, Miller has been cultivating his connection with South Africa’s thriving house music scene. That same year, he created the Alton Miller Foundation to help youth to develop life skills and frequently is asked to speak at workshops and symposiums about his experiences and contributions to Electronic music and House music. 

Alton has two forthcoming EPs on Mister Bear Records in Spring & Summer 2024 and we’re excited to showcase both to the House music world.

Hardened Chord (Regis Remix)

Read between the lines and it's quite clear Mannequin boss Alessandro Adriani is a massive fan of Turin miminal synth band Musumeci and the various projects they were involved in from the mid-'80s onwards. Having first opened the band to wider appreciation with the retrospective Schwarz Morgen / Zusammen compilation of Musumeci material culled from some super rare tape recordings, Mannequin have gone on to commission Nation boss Traxx to rework "Untitled" for a limited 12" release as well as document the music issued through the Turin band's Der Zeltweg label. We're already quite excited about Mannequin's plans for the year thanks to the recent announcement of a Record Store Day reissue of No More classic "Suicide Commando", and our pulses are racing a little bit more with news of another Musumeci-related release. Cititrax artist An-i (aka Doug Lee) has been given free reign to brutalise two Musumeci from the Schwarz Morgen / Zusammen compilation for an upcoming 12" release. Entitled simply Harry Batasuna/Untitled (An-i Edits), the record is due in late May and you can stream both edits in full below. If you are a fan of either Cititrax release from An-i or the Rat Life series you need to check these.
