DJ Marky is one of few electronic artists who pretty much sums up the word 'legend' in its entirety. Bearing a style and a degree of energy that transcends dancefloors around the globe, Marky has breathed a new life into the drum & bass scene since he first emerged back in the late 90s. With a knack for releasing chart hits alongside underground club cuts Marky’s held down a long standing residency here (under his Marky & Friends and Innerground banners) and when you see him live, it’s obvious that behind the beaming smile the masterful DJ means business. Who else can mix whilst gesturing a turntable like a violin, hauled up onto his shoulder?

He’ll be back once again on Friday 20th February for the latest instalment of his Innerground residency alongside Lenzman, Spirit and The Invaderz. Marky's kindly put together another mix to help stoke anticipation...

Earlier this month, the drum & bass legend that is DJ Marky announced details of his debut solo album, My Heroes. Comprised of 17 tracks, the album, which is set to be released on his Innerground label on 15th June, will feature an array of his notorious d&b funk, Brazilian flair and his trademark interlaced groovy percussion. 

It's a bit of an understatement to say that a full length transmission from Marky has been a long time coming - especially when you consider the fact that he’s been transcending the world’s dancefloors for over 25 years now. So it seemed only right that the selector and those affiliated with him would mark this wondrous occasion with an eagerly awaited launch party right here in Room One on Friday 12th June. In the run up to release he's not only been kind enough to give his faithful fans an insight into the making of the album by releasing an exclusive documentary, drip feeding teaser episodes each week but he's also given us the opportunity to enjoy another brand new and exclusive mix that he's put together "with love" to help stoke the coals of anticipation...

It's pretty unbelievable that DJ Marky's only just released his first solo album.

A magician on the decks and responsible for some certified drum 'n' bass classics (we all know the cries of "it's the way" from XRS collab 'LK'), the Brazilian's been in the business for over 15 years, dousing clubbers with his funk-laced tune selection in clubs like Womb in Tokyo, Space in Ibiza and Fabric, where he's invited the likes of Total Science, Marcus Intalex and Fabio along for his popular Innerground Records residency.

Marky is famously proud of his Brazilian roots, but even without knowing his background you could likely get some idea from the style of drum & bass he plays. Somehow his sound has always channelled the sun of his native South America both in the records he plays and the gems he’s signed to his label Innerground. 

There are a number of other traits that have made Marky’s sets so distinctive, from his infectious charisma, to his inexplicable scratching skills. He’s demonstrated this time and again in Farringdon, with his long-running Marky & Friends night among one of FABRICLIVE’s best-loved residencies. 

This Friday we’re pleased to welcome Marky back after a whole two years, and to mark the occasion we got hold of him for a one-off mix and interview ahead of the weekend. He delivered a mix of typically breezy rollers and told us what we can expect from his extended 2-hour set in just a few days’ time.
