Thought I'd celebrate 20 years of DJ'ing by recording a mammoth mix! This one's full of stacks of the tunes that have inspired me, and loads of my favourite mixes from over the years. Recorded over four decks, with tunes spanning nearly 30 years of DnB (although a LOT from the mid 00's 😂), across all sub genres.

Hannibal - 20 Years In The Game

Mark XTC’s been something of a drum & bass kingpin in the North West of England for some time now. Currently lecturing in DJ and Audio Technology at Manchester College he’s been sharing his personal love of music for many years, through several different outlets. In the 80s he won the North West DMC DJ Championships and devoted his life to DJing and producing music with groups like The Mix Factory and Da Intalex (a duo with a certain man called Marcus who’d later go on to adopt the name and coin the Soul:ution label). 

After those projects disbanded Mark signed to Ray Keith’s Dread Recordings/Penny Black Records empire releasing music such as the <em>Come On EP</em> which in turn brought him to the attention of Dillinja and his Valve label with whom he’d go on to release tracks like ‘Keyz’ and ‘Roll Dem Beatz’. Over the years Mark’s also released on numerous other labels and as a result has played all across the world but he’s making the journey from his native Manchester alongside the Hit & Run crew to play Room Three next Friday. 

With a lineage as colourful as Mark XTC’s is was always going to be inevitable that we’d ask him to put together a mixtape but we’re even happier he chose to select 90 minutes worth of his favourite jungle records.

A throwback jungle track I made using only the the Dirtywave M8.

About this release from Sydney City Chiptune Ministries:
We pulled together a community jungle compilation made entirely on the Dirtywave M8 Tracker.

If artists had never made a jungle track before? No worries at all.

We built a starter bundle packed with breaks, basses, pads, vox and FX, along with phrases and examples to show how it all fits together. Artists used it as a launchpad, tweaked it, tore it up and added their own sounds.

We hope you enjoy the results.

All profits from digital Bandcamp sales of this compilation will be donated to Djirra (djirra.org.au), an organisation in Australia that stands with Aboriginal women to prevent and address family violence. Djirra provides culturally safe programs, legal support, and community workshops that strengthen women’s voices, build resilience, and create pathways to safety and wellbeing. Part three of the „first timer“ series takes us back to 2011, the first year Marky joined us in San Teodoro. We had been discussing this for many years - Marky even mentions himself on the recording, that Lowqui was telling him for 6 years to come (basically since Lowqui came the first time himself in 2006). He had to make up for all those years he missed and played an energy loaded 3 hour set! Back then it was the busiest night we had ever experienced in that outdoor area - and it re-shaped the meaning of dancing under the stars for us. That particular night inspired the redesign of that whole outdoor area at Ambra Night, adding a bigger rig and transforming it into a dance arena. 

Marky was supported by Stamina MC, MC Lowqui, Deeizm MC Fats and MC Tali, and everybody was on point! He scratched, drummed, upside-down scratched, danced, sang and took everybody on a fantastic journey through the various facets of Drum&Bass. Since then Marky took over the Wednesday night outdoor area at SUNANDBASS and he absolutely loves it! Every year he complains that he can only stay for 3 days as he has to travel to his next tour stop somewhere in Europe. Let’s hope next time he can join us for a little longer and relax a couple of days at La Cinta beach.
