With the Hyperdub label turning marking their 10th year of operation this Friday night by taking over the entirety of the club and programming a hell of a spread across all three rooms, we thought it prudent to celebrate. As such we’ve been archiving some of the articles written in the time before Kode9 and co. started releasing records and were a webzine covering the influence of Jamaican music on London in the run up to the event. But in addition to that, the man Morgan Zarate’s gone and made us a mixtape to mark the event even further. 

The London based producer, who’s to date released three EPs on the label, will be spinning in Room Two alongside Deep Medi boss, Mala, Fatima Al Qadiri, Terror Danjah and Champion. And that’s just a tiny cross section of the kind of talent making the journey to Farringdon to toast the decade anniversary of Hyperdub, so ahead of Friday, download this joyously heavy, 35 minute pre-emptive strike...

As the night drew close, they hopped into the car and began to drive. They were headed north, in the search of flickering stars which would dance in a euphoric ultraviolet haze and shine bright against the deep black backdrop which might one day swallow them hole.

They were all sat quietly as they waited for the darkness to fall, in the meantime they drove slowly on.

The dynamic and genre-spanning Irish producer and DJ @orla_cd has announced a new EP, Moonlight Crush, out on 25th April via our label, fabric Originals.

“A Howl’s A Howl” a single that was inspired by the historic and now-extinct native wolves in the UK and Ireland, and their prominence in Irish Mythology. The melodies build like a growl, haunting the track, a primal instinct keeping the listener moving.


The Moonlight Crush EP was created functionally to be experienced in a club or rave where Or:la feels most at home. The heavy rhythmic synths and organs are reminiscent of losing yourself on the dancefloor, the scent of smoke machines and sweat is thick in the air, lit only by the hint of a full moon.

As a multifaceted producer, DJ, and label owner, Or:la’s artistic journey has taken her from the tranquil and remote landscapes of Inch Island in Ireland to the vibrant nightlife scenes of some of the world’s most iconic venues.

Now based in Liverpool, Orlagh Dooley has become an integral part to the clubbing scene as a promoter and queer community builder pouring her heart and soul back into the place she found her own musical voice. Known for her diverse showcasing of genres, across UK bass, tribal house, deep house, breakbeat, acid, and 90’s techno, Or:la’s ability to draw connections between the subtleties of these genres is what sets her apart from the rest.

Orla - Moonlight Crush (Floating Away Dub) [fabric Originals]

Supercontinent EP, named for the ancient geological era when Africa and South America were joined as Pangea.

A reformulation of rhythmic ideas inspired by South African Amapiano and South American Baile Funk governs the two hemispheres of the record. The pair examine and deconstruct dancefloor material, eschewing 4/4 for interlocking shaker patterns, searing acid lines, cracking breakbeats, and vocal samples in Zulu and Brazil Portuguese.

An ascending percussive riff marks the arrival of “Pulgueiro Baile”, followed closely by break beats and the nostalgia of distinctly British acid electro. While pulguero translates as ‘flea market’ there is nothing random to be found; it is an intentionally future-forward retelling of a vintage sound, replete with a mind-melt breakdown of rave pads.
