Following notable releases on Editions Mego as Electronic music duo LCC, and multiple singles and collaborations on Nicolas Jaar’s Other People label and Modern Obscure Music, experimental electronic artist Ana Quiroga (@ana_quiroga) announces her debut album Azabache for release on 8th September via Houndstooth. Ana also shares the first single from the project ‘Wallada’ which is available now to buy digitally and stream.

A personal odyssey, shaped by Ana’s deep connection to her homeland Asturias and her experience since moving to London, underpins Azabache. From the rich Celtic heritage of Asturias – the mines, minerals, and mystical feminine energy – to the urban occultism of their now-home London and the enchanting streets of Hackney and the East End, Azabache embodies the connection between deep and highly symbolic ancestral roots and these contemporary new beginnings.

As both a DJ (read: mixtape specialist) and a graphic designer, Lee Glasspool holds down a bit of a pretty unique niche. Probably better known across the London club scene and beyond under the name, Smutlee, he’s long since traded in a dancefloor ready blend of a lot of different styles constantly traversing through grime, funky, bashment, hip hop, dancehall and more in one of his ‘regular’ sets. Suffice to say he’s played here a hell of a lot as a direct result. 

Joining us again on Friday night, where he’ll buddy up with JME, Kode9, Plastician, Mumdance and more in Room One, the lad only went above and beyond and personified his all round don status in this sharp half hour blast of his trademark genre bent selecting...

fabric, the cultural institution that has provided the backbone for electronic music within London and worldwide, today announce the consolidation of 23 years of influence across the scene with a brand new label, fabric Originals. Drawing from the guiding lights of the genres that have been emanating from the club’s soundsystems and fitting alongside their already hugely established fabric mix series and Houndstooth label, the imprint aims to release special projects from the artists that form the present and future of boundary pushing club music globally. 

To launch the label, fabric Originals today unveil A Day After A Night With U/Stars & Water, a new split 12” on coloured vinyl from hi-NRG pioneers Eris Drew & Octo Octa. 

Opening with ‘A Day After A Night With You’, Eris Drew draws on elements of 90s big beat with a propulsive twist, adding chest-rattling bass notes to anchor the track’s eyes-down 4/4 rhythm. The track’s throwback sensibilities push to the fore further with an infectious soul vocal sample and vintage feeling synths, alongside an almost spiritual mysticism that permeates the song’s skittering production and upbeat melodics. 

Created in reaction to ‘A Day After A Night With You’’s dancefloor wonder, Octo Octa’s ‘Stars & Water’ takes on a much more commanding tone. Finding cues from a classic house sound, the track employs deft polyrhythms to build progressive energy. The track’s analog bassline contributes to its authoritative tempo before a beautifully spacious switch up leads the track from a high energy workout to a half-time wander through the track’s sonic oasis, before an ecstatic build towards a final climax.
