Sonny Wharton has emerged in the past couple of years as one of the brightest prospects in the UK. Described by The Shapeshifters as “one of the most prolific producers out there” he’s remixed the likes of Fatboy Slim, Frankie Knuckles and The Temper Trap. Releasing singles on Size, Toolroom, Spinnin’ and Skint Sonny has received regular support from house music heavyweights Pete Tong, Steve Angello, Roger Sanchez and Mark Knight whilst continuing to push his own label Whartone Records and dominate the download charts.﻿

As a DJ Sonny shot to fame by winning a DJ Mag mix-tape competition for Renaissance leading to sets in Ibiza at Amnesia, a weekly residency at the infamous Manumission and quickly went on to establish a formidable reputation as a DJ whilst racking up slots for the who’s who of club land with sell-out shows at Space, Pacha and Ministry Of Sound to name but a few.

Known for his technical abilities both in the studio and in the DJ booth Sonny has been able to call us at DT fans of his for a while now. Thus after enjoying a stellar 2013 that saw him continue his indomitable rise through electronic music and with an even bigger plans for the coming year for both him and his label it was only natural that invited Sonny to revisit 5 pivotal moments in his fledgling career. The fact that he also delivered us an exclusive mix to go with it was just a bonus!

After making a huge impact on the drum & bass circuit with his debut album, What The Future Holds, back in 2011, the studio dynamo is once again showcasing his unparalleled production skills with his two part follow up LP, Back To Basics (Part One of which was released earlier this year). Taking a slightly darker direction this time around, the records been split into two parts, a process which according to S.P.Y was the only way to trim back a 70 track strong catalogue of music he had earmarked for it. . 

So, with a only a couple months before he releases the second chapter, we grabbed an exclusive new mix and caught up with the Brazilian producer to chat about the project as a whole and the forthcoming record and what to expect come August 1st when he’ll touch down in Room One alongside London Elektricity, Source Direct and Lenzman for the album launch...

Working under a few different names, The Analogue Cops may be the better known pseudonym of Italian producers Lucretio and Marieu, but Xenogears was the name of their very first project together as a joint production outfit. Having used The Analogue Cops name for a while, the Xenogears moniker was brought back in 2013 after a three year hiatus to release the LP, Lost Artemis on their very own Restoration imprint. Although they've revived this particular project,  the pair are still very much immersed in their methodology. 

Maintaining and releasing hardware based productions is their thing and it’s an ethos that helps define their former output and  the faster-paced, darker fusions for of their techno-driven persuasion this time around.
Venturing to Farringdon at the end of the month to play a live show alongside Madteo, Marcos Cabral and Terry Francis, we've managed to get our hands on an exclusive new mix, whilst finding the time to hear them out and discover what's in store for the pair over the coming months...

Lenzman's success as a Drum & Bass producer should come as no surprise, his sound having coalesced from Hiphop and an infatuation with Soul music to become one of the forerunners in liquid soul. In 2010 Lenzman's talent as an artist came to a head when he released 'Open Page' with Riya on Goldie's seminal Metalheadz label, a vocal collaboration that would continue to be a much-loved aspect of his sound. 

Lenzman's eclectic style was championed as a breath of fresh air for the scene and his career began to snowball. He has played headline gigs and festivals across the world earning respect from some of the greatest names in Drum & Bass, including Marcus Intalex and DJ Friction. 2013 promises even bigger things as he gears up to unveil his debut full-length release. Watch out for Lenzman's album 'Looking At The Stars', which will drop later this year on Metalheadz.
