Producing euphoric, rave contorting drum & bass seems to be Tom Mundell's special skill. As Metrik he'd already released on labels like Viper, Spearhead and Shogun Audio before he signed exclusively with Hospital Records but since then he's further underlined those early shades of promise with his self titled debut EP on the label and worldwide tours. Ahead of a 2014 that's reportedly stacked with big projects he's taken the time to thread a dancefloor focused narrative throughout this 32 minute mix, made ahead of his upcoming appearance in Room Two on Friday 18th April.

Metrik - FABRICLIVE Promo Mix

Alongside Ed Rush, Matt Quinn (who you’ll undoubtedly know better under his DJ name, Optical) has helped sculpt the drum & bass scene’s multifarious experimentations for nearly two decades now. As producers they pioneered the techstep sound, making crisp and explosive d&b sing on the defining <em>Wormhole</em> album, but as bosses of Virus Recordings they’ve managed to continually stay propulsive releasing music from people like Audio, Optiv & BTK, The Upbeats, Noisia and many many more. A mainstay here, the duo’s forceful and dominating sets are always surefire highlights which is why, ahead of their set headlining Room Two this Friday, we asked Optical to put together an hour long mix which demonstrates a) why we hold them in such high regard and b) why Optical’s still one of the most quietly inventive production forces in modern drum & bass.

Optical - FABRICLIVE Promo Mix

It’s getting harder and harder to bemoan Kasra’s Critical imprint of most anything. This latest mere 25 minute mix from his label signing, Emperor is a real case in point. Being so short there’s very little let up but the fact is it’s probably rammed full of a ton of new productions and it’s got a very evident meticulous nature to it. Emperor doesn’t try and cloud the product with ideas above its station, the mix’s rowdy, almost call and response like nature surmises the way a <em>whole</em> bunch of people play out, constantly pushing the crowd on and on into more of a fever. And consequently, as a teaser for the next Critical Sound night, it’s the perfect thing to epitomize the type of energy and devotion their crowd provides.

Emperor - FABRICLIVE x Critical Sound Mix (April 2014)

Drum & bass producer FD’s had our ear for more than a minute now. Describing himself as a ‘musical maven’ his productions on labels like Dispatch, Critical and Critical’s Modulations offshoot still stand up as textural works and Freddie always retains a bit of balance between the head and the feet in the way he plays. This 40 minute promo mix is actually a pretty characteristic summation of precisely that, made ahead of his appearance in Room Three at the forthcoming Playaz Easter Special on Friday 25th April.

FD - FABRICLIVE Promo Mix

Since moving to London six years ago, Yasmin has risen through the ranks to become one of the city’s most exquisite exports. Though she hates to use such a word, her sound is quite the essence of ‘eclectic’. Taking in elements of the UK’s home grown garage fusions alongside aspects of 90s hip hop, soul and R&B in both her DJing and vocal output (which has clear influences of female luminaires like Lauryn Hill and Mary J Blige), Yasmin’s sound is slick, soulful and seductively charismatic. Undoubtedly, her alluring style is what saw her snapped up, signing with Ministry of Sound, collaborating with the likes of Gorgon City, Shy FX and Ms Dynamite and holding down a new weekend radio show on Rinse FM.

Having played here before we’re fans of what she’s doing and its Yasmin’s forthcoming set this Thursday at the Rinse FM Easter party that’s got us more than a little excited, so we asked her for an exclusive new mix and a caught up for a quick chat along the way…

Ivy Lab & Hydro - Make It Clear (Ft. Frank Carter III & Lucy Annika)

Following a monumental back to back set with Craig Richards at The Nothing Special’s last outing in Room One back in March, London’s Sam Russo is back in the selections this month alongside Trevino, Radioactive Man and of course, Craig Richards. Renowned in the game as an audio engineer, Russo has spent the last year or so not only working behind the scenes on some of the UK’s slickest records but he’s also been developing his own array of releases on labels like The Nothing Special, Stock 5 and his self-conducted imprint, Caught London Sleeping. Although this deems as an official introduction for Sam, the audio maestro is a good friend of the fabric family having warmed up in our Farringdon spot since 2011. So to get to know him a little better, we’ve delved a little deeper and asked him a few probing questions as well as grabbing this new exclusive mix, one that features nothing but his own music including his forthcoming releases on The Nothing Special.
