 further exciting album news for 2014 a short while back we revealed that March would be marking the release of the hot anticipated debut album of Paris-born London resident Tim Paris. Currently best known as one half of It’s a Fine Line alongside scene luminary Ivan Smagghe, and as a respected underground figure in his own right with releases on leading labels including Young Turks, Kompakt, Moshi Moshi, PIAS, Items&Things, Soma, F Communications, Souvenir and Eskimo it’s fair to say the announcement he’d be dropping a full length album this year was greeted with a fair amount of excitement here at DT towers.

Entitled ‘Dancers’ the release follows an illustrious career as a DJ, producer, musician and owner of the esteemed Marketing Music imprint, ‘Dancers’ is being billed as demonstrating Paris’ skill as more than simply the manufacturer of dancefloor numbers with album crossing genres with the tracklist being “populated by fully-developed songs that effortlessly merge synth pop, proper indie, new wave, post punk, disco, house and electronica into a shimmering and seductive whole.”

A highly-collaborative affair, ‘Dancers’ features a host of guests, including Ben Shemie from the Secretly Canadian band SUUNS, Georg Levin (one half of Wahoo with DT favorite Dixon),  and the fabulously monikered  Sex Judas (with whom Tim has been a fellow roster member of the  Marketing Music imprint) the album seems sure to make waves upon its release on My Favorite Robot. Now, to celebrate it’s release we’ve secured an exclusive mix to get you in the mood for the weekend early. Check it out

Over the past 8 years or so we have had, along with Theo Parrish, the honour of playing the monthly residencies at a small basement club in Shoreditch, London with an impeccable sound system. After 20 years of operation, it was time to move on and close the doors on a place that has a lot to answer for in shaping modern club culture. To say this space along with the owner Ade’s singular vision was fundamental in our personal musical formation would be a complete understatement. 
 
On the day of their closing, manager Charlotte asked us if we’d put the system through its paces for the last time that the club would be open to the public. We set about packing the anthems from our respective residencies and on the night once the people were through the doors played 2 records in turn for the rest of the dance. We included tracks of our own and of friends that were made with that place in mind. Records like Daphni - Ye Ye and Four Tet - Pinnacles were made to first be played at Kieran’s nights there, and the Floating Points - Vacuum EP was born out of the CD-R night at the club, and its launch party was the trigger for Sam’s monthly residency.
 
We set this recording up just before the start of the night and unfortunately it distorts in places, but we make no apology for how joyfully noisy people get! The vibe in the room this night was typical of the club on any given night and we hope this recording captures just a fraction of the spirit of a Plastic People night.
 
A massive thank you from us to everyone that has come down to the nights over the years and supported our music there. We are truly humbled to have shared the music we love with people at this place, and your energy in turn has influenced the way we make music on an unfathomable scale. We also thank the bosses Charlotte Kepel and Ade Fakile for inviting us to the club and having faith in us over  these years! All the best for the future!

Sunday Morning is a mix series dedicated to pushing artists and labels who intend on pursuing the beauty in downtempo/chill-wave music. The focus is centered on experimental yet eloquent productions. This mix series is made in order to wind down and relax after a long night out, or simply listen to something other than dance music. I grew up with record labels like M3rck and Schematic based out of Miami, and have always searched for mixes which included these sort of sounds after a long weekend of traveling. Having not found many, I decided to make this a bi-weekly ongoing series including guest mixes.
