The original version of the track was recorded in Marfa, TX, before the band commenced official tracking for 'Shields' in Cape Cod and New York, and was released earlier this month on 'Shields Expanded' and 'Shields B-Sides.' The collections build on their acclaimed 2012 iTunes Album of the Year with exclusive b-sides, demos, and remixes.

'Shields' was released to some of 2012's best reviews, with Pitchfork calling it "magnificently epic" and the NY Times hailing it as "enthralling." The band performed tracks from the album on Colbert, Fallon, Letterman, Leno, Austin City Limits, and Ellen, and played their biggest headlining and international festival shows to date.

At the end of December 2013, Christmas looming and the New Year just around the corner, Phosphorescent played a four-night stand at the Music Hall Of Williamsburg in Brooklyn; and for four-nights running, blew the roof off the place.  Matthew Houck, fronting his seven-piece band, plus an auxiliary string trio deployed throughout the set, played for more than 10 hours, all recorded and eventually edited down to the 19 tracks that appear on the new three-album set, Phosphorescent Live At The Music Hall, out 2/17 on Dead Oceans.

Inspired by live albums such as Bob Dylan’s Hard Rain, Houck envisioned an album that, rather than play like a greatest hits collection, would present songs from throughout his catalog in new ways, representative of how the songs have grown and transformed over the years in the live setting. Phosphorescent were coming to the end of almost a year of hard touring behind 2013’s Muchacho before the four Brooklyn Music Hall shows, (one of which was a solo performance by Houck), and the ability of Houck’s songs to morph and expand is showcased here through these revelatory performances. 

Live At the Music Hall spans nearly 10 years and four Phosphorescent albums total, including 2005’s Aw Come Aw Wry, 2007’s Dead Oceans debut Pride, breakout 2010 album Here’s To Taking It Easy, and ultimately, 2013’s transformative Muchacho. The Phosphorescent live line-up here features Ricky Ray Jackson on guitar and pedal steel, pianist Scott Stapleton, drummer Christopher Marine, bassist Rustine Bragaw, percussionist David Torch and organ / keyboards player Jo Schornikow.

“Playing those four shows, it was clear something special was going on,” says Houck. “After eight months of touring, we’d gotten to a really good point where we weren’t quite exhausted yet with the material, but we’d had enough time to really grow with the songs. So we were in that sweet spot where we were pulling something great out of the songs every night.” Without a doubt, Live At The Music Hall is an inspiring document of a band at the peak of their powers.

Most people would be most familiar with Dennis Haskins’ work as Mr. Belding on the runaway hit 1990’s television show “Saved By The Bell”, but not many people would know that Haskins’ got his start singing in musicals long before his casting in the teen-dream drama. Having been long time friends with both Shooter Jennings and his manager Jon Hensley, and in the tradition of BCR’s bucking of tradition, BCR Los Angeles is proud to present “Belding’s Blues”. Printed on beautiful white 7″ vinyl, “Belding’s Blues” features experimental music composed and constructed by Shooter Jennings to accompany Haskins’ voice. The stand-out track, a musical mash-up of Tom Jones’ hit “Delilah” and Kris Kristofferson’s “For The Good Times”, titled “For The Good Times, Delilah”, features almost industrial soundscaping that echoes more of Radiohead and My Morning Jacket than it’s original versions. Surely a collectors item for the RSD crowd and the children of the 90’s.

Building upon the tradition of both historic labels, FANTASY (est. 1949) and VANGUARD RECORDS (est. 1947) now primarily encompass rock and alternative releases. The label's roster includes both established artists such as Tedeschi Trucks Band as well as promising young talent such as the dynamic The Marcus King Band.

Brothers Max and Sol Weiss started FANTASY from their plastic molding business in 1949, and the label was historically a multi-genre, eclectic home for a diverse roster of artists local to the San Francisco bay area, and music ranging from rock to funk to jazz to soundtracks. Fantasy began hitting platinum many times over with Creedence Clearwater Revival in the late 1960s and enjoyed tremendous success due to iconic albums from The Vince Guaraldi Trio (A Charlie Brown Christmas), Tony Bennett (The Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Album), and many others, as well as soundtracks from Academy Award-winning films One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Amadeus and The English Patient.
