If there's one label that consistently offers both the sounds of the familiar and the fresh, it's FatKidOnFire. After a wild remix EP featuring the most respected of dons last month, the prolific label returns this week with a debut from emerging Canadian producer, Nahlith. Taking influence from beloved festivals of his native country such as Shambhala, he conjures up the energy that so often descends onto these festivals, an energy that so many have been starved of over the last eighteen months. Nahlith provides the potent atmospheres across four brand new productions including todays premiere, the concluding 'Physis'.

'FKOFd051 officially welcomes another new artist to the FKOF family, but it's one we've worked with quite extensively over the years. Through a variety of aliases, we've always known Arkham Sound (fka nights) has a special something, and we're pretty sure - once you've listened to the EP - you'll know what we mean. Having worked with an impressive roster of labels like Sentry Records, Badman Studios and Sub Audio, we're delighted to welcome Lukasz to FKOF. Four tracks on the paid release, plus a free download via Bandcamp, and they're all serious weight.

'Our fifty-first digital release opens with the dark and moody 'Storm Brand', all twisted  synths and tight percussion. Next up, the industrial 'Cosmic Horror' does what you'd expect it to; an almost hip-hop vibe but with a nightmarish flip. 'Watcher's Eye' was one of the first tunes that caught our ear with its beats, bass and space flow. It's a roller. Closing out the EP is 'Trenches'; a FKOF Sessions regular, a tune that always seems to get drawn for. It's full of wicked atmospheres, and is a great example of why we've signed the producer. The free download, 'Harbinger', takes things down a level and is the most stripped back and meditative inclusion on the EP. Absolute eyes down business! 

'Coupled with amazing artwork from Turkish artist Lal Yetki, this EP with Arkham Sound sets the tone with what we've got coming over the next six months. It's been a pleasure working with Lukasz on this release and we know you'll enjoy the tunes as much as we do!'

''FKOFd052' sees London-based Darkfella release what we think is his first solo EP of 140 material. The producer cut his teeth in the late ’90s on acid house and hardcore, before discovering both jungle, breaks and drum & bass at the turn of the millennium. As a DJ, Darkfella held down regular spots on Rude FM, Future FM and even Rinse FM as the genres combined, evolved and developed into exciting new sounds that resulted in what we know today as grime and dubstep. Darkfella’s used that extensive experience to produce material that evokes the genre’s early days while feeling as fresh as 2021 sound does. These tunes landed as cold demos and we’ve been super excited to work with Darkfella on what’s become FKOFd052.

''Revolver' kicks things off with its low, swinging stepper of a vibe. Dub sirens, rolling weight and crisp drums. Track two, 'High Note', is early dubstep material through and through. The samples, the percussion, the space. It’s everything attendees to venues like Plastic People, Mass and Melkweg were hearing in the early 2000s. 'Black Salute' takes a slightly different step, stepping up the energy but maintaining the beats, bass and atmospheres we know and love. We close with 'Zoid', a frenetic and adventurous end to the release which maintains the level of quality we love to see from producers we work with. Eyes down, subs up.

'Stumbling on absolute gold like these four tunes from relatively unknown producers like Damian is part of why we do what we do at FKOF Records. It took us a while to pin down the release but we’re so glad we got these demos and worked up one of our favourite EPs from 2021. February 2014 saw a relatively nascent FKOF Records celebrate its 5th month with 'FKOFd005' - an EP that's gone on to become one of our most popular (it's actually our most streamed release with ~500k plays). We've waited almost 8 years to work with either artist in the duo who built that release, but the wait's finally over.

''FKOFd053' is the return of Si Nanobyte to the FKOF family, under a new alias and with a new co-producer. Si and Ry are @Konessi-music, and this is their second outing with material under that name. The debut dropped with our friends at @Kokeshi last year, and if you've not checked the sumptuous 'Mr Shadow EP', please stop what you're doing and go do that first.

'This release also sees us do things a little differently. It's been a labour of love for all involved, and so we all wanted to suitably mark the occasion. This is the first five track EP we've done with FKOFd, it's not all at 140bpm and we've got a video for the EP's first track, 'SOPHIA'. You'll be able to read about the video and the incredible team behind it on the FKOF website soon. Oh, and this isn't the last material you'll hear from Konessi on FKOF Records. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. 

''SOPHIA' sets the tone of what to expect from the five tracks. Autumn sunlight through the forest canopy, 3am peak vibes with friends on the dance floor and that warm embrace of a good sub. 'SHIVA' steps things up a notch and is all stuttering samples, keys and vocals. Evocative stuff. 'KAMBO' is a bit more lowkey, but equally as emotional. It's as close as we get to a roller on the release with its percussive frameworks and meditative framing. Track four, 'SUTRA', is a good example of what to expect from a Konessi live show (yep, that's coming too) - crescendoing experiences that are as equally powerful on a sound system as they are enjoyed solo on an empty road. We close with 'UNION', smoky 'Untrue'-esque spaces that still gives us goosebumps 6mo after first listen. 

'As you can probably tell, this release holds a unique place in the FKOF Records catalogue for us. It feels like the start of something with these two musicians, something the FKOF Records team are all pretty stoked on. We hope you see that something special too!'

For instance Simon Horne, one half of genre defining duo Nanobyte, returns to FKOF as Konessi this month alongside fellow producer and bass connoisseur, Ry Edwards. FKOFd053 is Konessi's second outing as a duo following 'Mr Shadow' EP on Kokeshi last year and one where they truly find their feet. 'I first stumbled upon two beautiful people (and their creature) at a dubstep gathering in Utrecht, the Netherlands that featured our good friend (and dubstep ambassador) Joe Nice. Mandy and Ivar, two music-driven individuals, sometimes hide behind their Platypus (PLTPS) moniker. Even so, back in 2019 when we first met, Platypus were slowly started gaining momentum with their material through a number of labels, including with the Dubtribu gang. 

'I've kept in touch with Mandy and Ivar since - after being captivated by 'Toni Dub' and 'Wolves in the Wall' that feature on their FKOF Records debut. We've worked together to showcase Platypus productions - and we're really proud of the final result. It contains a mix of various emotions, sometimes dark and sometimes light. Both Mandy and Ivar have outdone themselves with the 'Kikiriki' EP and I'm equally proud of the amazing video, recorded in an old glass factory in the Schiedam!

We're almost 12 years into supporting 140bpm music on the FatKidOnFire journey, and just into our 9th year of what's become the three imprints that comprise FKOF Records. So it's fair to say we've been on this whole music tip for a while. It's therefore a continuing delight - not to mention testament to health of the genre - that we're still discovering producers that inspire a 'wait, what?!' response after all this time...

'Our first EP of 2022, 'FKOFd054' is the latest addition to our back catalogue that did just that. It also welcomes another new member to the FKOF family. Grayson, aka Depth, has seen a release and free downloads with the troublemakers at Dank 'N' Dirty Dubz back in 2020, but otherwise (as he states on his SoundCloud) it's all 'mostly dubs'. We're super excited to welcome him to FKOF with four tunes that we know will broaden his appeal (and hopefully expand his fanbase). A special shoutout to both Grayson and our very own Korrupt for working this release up, it's hopefully the start of something special! 

''FKOFd054' opens with 'Hustle' - a vibrant, skittering tune that points to a number of musical influences that work just right when put in the same melting pot. 'Stretch' sees us welcome FKOFv002 special guest (not found the secret track yet?) Influenza back to FKOF with a first-time collab with Depth. Grayson's instrumental is a slinky little thing, but matched with the Influenza vocal produces a whole other beast; demonstrating Depth's genre-spanning production skills. 'Educate' flexes more of the instrumental vibe we've found ourselves on recently, evoking Ourman or Konessi-esque atmospheres. But don't worry, it more than holds its own on the system! We close out the EP with 'Drift' which is possibly our favourite tune of the lot. Pure beats, bass and space. 

'We've developed relationships with a few FKOF fam members where we've worked with them on a repeating basis (across multiple formats) because we believe in their material. We're only four tracks into working with Depth, but we're pretty sure you'll see him return to FKOF before too long. Enjoy 'FKOFd054' in the meantime!'

‘Another example of our very own Korrupt’s A&R efforts, we welcome three new artists to the FKOF family with our 55th digital EP. Olaf contacted Davide, aka as EKSTR, and the two of them teased out the four tracks we ended up signing. It’s a family vibe, but even more so with everyone involved. It’s awesome to see FKOFd002’s 11th Hour still releasing with us the best part of a decade after Jason’s debut outing (more on that soon), and equally awesome to see Russia's Ninety and Bristol's ØZ join the roster with their efforts. 

‘FKOFd055 kicks off with EKSTR’s solo outing — the aptly titled ‘Inspiration’. It’s a crisp stepper that crescendoes to something special. The percussion in this tune is next level. Track two welcomes Ninety to the party, with ‘Blend’. It continues where ‘Inspiration’ left off, but adds some extra Ninety spice to the mix. A nice touch. 11th Hour and EKSTR strip things back to their sparsest with ‘Calling’, all stretched samples and meditative, eyes-down vibes. Beats, bass and space. We call things to a close for track 4, on the ØZ and EKSTR collab ‘Photic Zone’. It brings the swing and is designed to get the floor moving in the dark corners of an early morning. 

‘Separately, the four tunes on EKSTR’s FKOF Records debut say a lot about Davide’s skills on the buttons. Together, alongside the EP’s equally talented collaborators, we know the artists in this group are onto something special. This won’t be the last we hear from the four producers on our imprints and, who knows, maybe we’ll see more ‘…& friends’ releases come to FKOF! Whatever happens, we hope you enjoy FKOFd055 in whatever form (standalone or as the four tracker) takes your fancy.’

'He's been on a roll (and then some) recently, but our 56th digital instalment is continued testament to our very own Korrupt's ear and A&R efforts. He hit Kyle, who you may know as Basura, up on SoundCloud and things moved quickly from there. End to end, this might actually be one of the quickest releases we've pulled together - six weeks from first contact to where we are now with the release dropping. It's easy to move quickly when the material's of such quality! 

'We open the release with the rather rowdy 'Onslaught'. There's something about the dark and dirty synths in the tune that inspires the need to cause serious damage. That vibe continues with FKOFd056's second inclusion - 'Last Words' - which hits harder than a 50 cal from a Desert Eagle (whether fired by Bullet Tooth Tony or not). 'Secrets' strips things back to our preferred beats, bass and space recipe. Atmospherics for days!   

'At the time of release, Kyle's got less than 1,000 followers on SoundCloud. But, if his FKOF Records debut is anything to go by, his audience is going to grow. Whatever happens next for the Denver-based producer, we know his tunes are going to keep international dancefloors busy with the 'eyes down, gun fingers up' vibe we look for in our music. Keep an eye on this artist, he's going places!'

It’s a bit difficult to believe it’s been almost four months since our last digital outing at FKOF Records – and eight months since the last physical instalment to our back catalogue. ‘057 takes us back to New Zealand (perhaps for the first time since 2016/17 and our material with Akcept’s 025, Headland’s 026 or Pugilist’s 031?), and welcomes the mighty Ma Barka to the FKOF Records family. George and Dylan have been busy with building material over the last 18months and are creating an avid audience with their heavyweight music. FKOF Records’ A&R maestro Olaf/ Korrupt has worked his magic once more and we’ve bagged four tunes we think summarise why Ma Barka are destined for greatness…

‘FKOFd057 goes to 11 pretty quickly with EP opener 'Peeler'. Cavernous atmospherics – space for days – mix with tight percussion and stabby keys. And, a theme that’ll continue across the release, the low end is concussive. Track two, 'Called It', strips things even further back to the beats, bass and space recipe we always look for. This one’s a meditative roller if there ever was one. 'Slugger', unsurprisingly, is what you’d expect from the track title. It’s brash and aggressive, and will be an overstimulating experience in front of the subs. Watch for this one. Last, but definitely not least, we have 'Fracture'. It feels like a departure from the 140 across the rest of the EP, slightly more frenetic than the other inclusions – but still provides the Ma Barka experience you’ll come to know. 

‘All in all, Dylan and George are very much on the start of their journey. At the time of writing, they’ve not yet broken the 150 follower figure on SoundCloud. But that’s not going to stay static for much longer. Christchurch has been deservedly known for fostering incredible bass-forward music, and Ma Barka are quickly starting to follow in the footsteps of NZ’s sound system forefathers.’

‘Hippoflip’s a bit of a nascent talent in the 140 space with one solo EP to his name prior to our effort together. We first came across him earlier this year with the release on Montpellier’s Noizion and got quickly chatting after hosting a premiere of one of the tunes. Hippo’s take on sound system music caught our eyes and ears from there and things progressed pretty quickly after that. In fact, looking back at the chat log, he sent us two tunes, we signed them, he sent us two more and (after a bit of back and forth with our resident A&R wizard Korrupt) that became what you’re about to listen to…

‘Our 58th release on the main FKOF Records digital imprint launches with what Hippo described as a ‘laidback dubby track’ when he sent it our way. ‘Assif’ is just that, with a bonus soupçon of our much-loved beats, bass and space ingredients on the top. Track two, ‘Bla Bla Bla’ takes no prisoners as ‘an aggressive triplet one-dropper’. That pretty much sums it up, but we’re keen to experience this in front of the subs as we suspect there’ll be a screwface or two on this one. Banger. As we move towards the tail-end of FKOFd058 we take things down a notch with ‘Haha Ok’. It’s a tune that brings a new side to a vibe that fits well within the FKOF Records back catalogue – one that feels like some of our earlier material. All sharp percs, clever atmospheres and some wicked sampling. Last, but definitely not least, we end with ‘No Retreat’. Luscious keys and a nod back to the dubby tip we found on ‘Assif’ with its rolling kicks into the second drop.

2023 marks FKOF Records’ 10th year as an imprint, and we’re pretty proud of our track record over the last decade. We’ve seen some of 140bpm’s rising stars – Chokez, Argo, Causa, Kodama, Ourman, 11th Hour, WZ to name a few – announce their talents to the genre and then go on to establish themselves as world-recognised talent. ‘If you’ve caught the FKOF Sessions show on SWU FM (RIP) or Subtle Radio throughout 2022, you’ll have heard a track played on an almost month basis. For those that know their classical music, you’ll maybe have recognised a nifty flip of Allegri’s 'Miserere' – taking the goosebump-inducing material down a darker path. The genius behind that tune, 'Deus', is Matt Darkai. At this point, we can’t not give uncle N-Type a shout out, because it was through Wheel & Deal and Darkai’s 'Immortal' EP we discovered Matt’s talents. We talked tunes at the start of this year, Matt sent us some dubs, and the rest is history. 

‘FKOFd059 kicks off with 'Ox' (suitably visualised on the EP cover by the wonderful Lal Yetki), all cavernous atmospherics and sub pressure. The second inclusion is the aforementioned 'Deus', which you’ll either have heard already or you’ll very quickly understand why it’s one of this year’s tunes for us. Next up we have the suitably-named 'Danger', all wobbly synths and main-room 2am madness. It’s a lot. Last, but definitely not least, we end with 'Swamps'. It settles things down into a deeper groove, all growls and crisp percussion. The second drop’s a lot, as well. To round things out, because it’s the end of the year and we like celebrating, we’ve also included a FKOF Free Download alongside the EP – Matt’s 'Loud Voices' bootleg, reworking another classic with his signature brooding twist.  

‘We think Matt Darkai’s a perfect addition to the FKOF Records family and sound –  beats, bass and space through and through. He’s released on a bunch of decent labels to date, so we’re delighted to welcome him to ours, and we know this track record will continue. Watch this space.’

As you may know, last year marked the closure of our first decade as an imprint, and we celebrated in true FatKidOnFire fashion, by having most of the year off. Not that we didn’t get anything done – there were two FKOF weddings and a bunch of other awesome activity to focus. With the new year now properly with us, we figured it was high time to get back on the wagon and get the new tunes rolling out the door. So here’s FKOFd060…

‘As ever, we’ve been testing a lot of upcoming FKOF Records material on the monthly FKOF Sessions on Subtle Radio - or the bi-monthly collab show on Radio Buena Vida with Kami-O. The tunes that have become FKOFd060 have featured across both shows for what feels like forever, alongside a whole host of other material from fellow US-based producers. The latest wave (we won’t call it new, it’s been going on for ages) of American dubstep producers are starting to feel like they’re really finding their niche and we’re stoked to bag four tunes (and a FKOF freebie) from Mikrodot, one of the wave’s rising stars. 

‘Our 60th digital EP - FKOFd060 – once again beautifully visualised by our resident artiste Lal Yetki, kicks off with ‘Girl from Twin Cities’. It’s a sumptuous, smoky roller; all warm subs and floaty atmospherics. Next up, we’ve the slightly heavier ‘Ember’ – crisp percussive pressure and the wobblier vibes that hark back to Fabriclive.37. Track three, ‘Enlightenment’, strips things back to our beats, bass and space recipe and is a firm FKOF favourite. The final EP inclusion, ‘Repressed’, continues the wobblier themes found earlier in the release with more gunfinger-inspiring vibes. It’s a fitting end to our latest American-made release on FKOF Records. Except it’s not, because we’ve also got a FKOF freebie from Mike to celebrate his debut with us. Some Coki-inspired madness. It bangs!

‘We’re 11 years into our journey as a record label, and we keep finding producers and material that continues to excite us. Our 60th digital release is a rowdy affair, and has been a labour of love between us and the artists (in ever sense) involved. We hope you enjoy it as much as we’ve enjoyed putting it together!’

It’s been over fifteen years since we launched FKOF, and we're not far off celebrating FKOF Records' – our physical and digital imprint – fifteenth birthday, too. Although we've slowed our release cadence from the monthly efforts of our heyday, we're still here and still working with impeccable musicians. ‘The early to mid 2010s were golden years for experimental 140bpm material. It was the era dubstep had established itself, and was evolving into the multi-layered, all-encompassing genre it continues to be today. 2013 also saw both FatKidOnFire (with our FKOF Free Downloads and FKOF mixes) and the nascent FKOF Records start to find their groove. As is often the case, some decade plus later, we're still finding the music that excited us all those years ago. So much so, we've tapped a producer we've had in the extended FKOF fam for our first digital outing in over a year...

‘FKOFd061 formally welcomes Atsuko to the FKOF Records family after his debut 'FKOF' EP all those years ago (and, ICYMI, you can grab the free downloads in the links below). We're also stoked to welcome the sonic troublemaker S0LID to the record with one of the weightiest remixes we've had the pleasure of homing. Much like the tunes that first caught our attention in the 2010s, Atsuko's continued to hone his sound and provides ample summary of why we rate him with his release. 'We're Different' stutters into consciousness with chopped vocal samples, crisp percussive power and a real groove. Track two, 'So', dials up the low end and has soundtracked many a nighttime journey since we signed it. Lovely stuff. 'Those Who Seek' strips things back to the basics with its seamless beats, bass and space approach. Not to be outdone, S0LID joins proceedings with his 'So' remix as EP closer. It's a monster. Not much else to say!

'FKOF (when it started to solely focus on 140bpm in the early 2010s) was designed to champion new talent - creating a platform (& what is now FKOF Records some 15 years later) to help up-and-coming producers monetise their material. In our heyday, we were releasing EPs every month - often off the back of a fairly quick gut reaction on receiving demos. Did the material fit FKOF; was it pure beats, bass and space vibes? Here we are in 2025, still doing the same thing. And we're welcoming two nascent 140 artists to the family with a decent flag in the sand for why you should get to know the Berlin-based duo...

'OTTO & SAIBOD joined forces a while ago under the ZYCH moniker to release on labels like Locus Sound, TooMuchCollective and more. When we somehow ended up on their dubs mailer, a few tunes caught our collective ear and here (as it often goes) we are a few months later with an EP. 'FKOFd062' opens with 'Michael Craw', laying the foundations of what comes throughout the record. Sparsely built, but well furnished, tunes with crisp percussion, heavyweight sub behaviour and eyes down, fingers up atmospheres. Track two, 'Perleberg', clatters about with its locomotive synths and takes it up a notch. Things really kick off with 'Railgun', however, and it's unsurprisingly the tune we wanted first (and built the rest of the EP around). Sonic warfare, with a FKOF Records logo on it. We close the EP out with 'Conclusion Y' - which is joined by FKOFd062 Free Download (grab on our band camp) 'Conclusion X' - ending on a ZYCH-induced high. We rate this duo and we think you should, too.  

'Sometimes, things just come together nice and simple. 'FKOFd062' is a record that's done exactly that. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. And get to know OTTO, SAIBOD and ZYCH. Big things coming from them!'
