I’m revisiting the first Zenlike Creature album and, I guess, tweaking the mix and remastering. Whilst I am very proud of my work, I’ve learned so much over the last few years that I listen back and wish I could have mixed it better.

Now, I know some folk are purists (see the Star Wars back against George and the 97 reissues) but all I want to do here is enhance what I wrote and produce, not add anything that wasn’t there in the original. Just a better balanced mix and master.

Influences: I was introduced to the world of electronic music while growing up in the Midwest, so I was heavily influenced by the sounds coming out of Detroit and Chicago. More recently I’ve found that as time goes on, I’ve been going further back in time with the music that influences me. Recent loves include 90s electronic music, 80s goth music, and early industrial music. Some examples artists include Luke Vibert, Coil, Plastikman, Future Sound of London, Drexciya, and Detroit Escalator Company. This recording is a live set of my original acid, house, & techno productions, but I’ve also started playing downtempo & ambient live sets as well. 

Affiliations/Residencies/Projects: I’ve been a resident artist for San Francisco collective As You Like It for the last 8 years. I’ve also released records with the labels God Particle and Beretta Music.

Advice for the DJs, producers and artists of our community: Put yourself out there, ask questions, surround yourself with supportive people & ignore any haters. Remember to also be supportive of your fellow artists. Practice often, even when things aren’t flowing easily. Don’t be afraid to try new approaches & techniques, embrace the challenge that comes with it.

Sharlese Metcalf got her start as a resident DJ of Seattle's goth industrial wave crew, Second Sight in 2012. Hosting shows at the iconic Electronic Tea Garden, Sharlese drew inspiration from her time there, and was introduced to Kate Moore who was commonly interested in very similar music. When Second Sight disbanded, Sharlese and Kate commenced with their first collaboration called Audiodrome at Pony, a minimal synth/coldwave focused night. After about a year together, Kate and Sharlese moved to Krewmerk and founded their current night, False Prophet. Sharlese is a connoisseur of music, DJs frequently around town and also works at KEXP 90.3 FM as the host of Mechanical Breakdown and is a rotating host on Expansions among many other contributions to the community.

Born on the outskirts of Toronto, Farhan found his way into the rave scene at 19. He quickly developed a niche as a raver. DJ and co-founder of the 'Untitled' DIY event series, his inspiration is derived from shared moments on the dance floor—this can be heard in his sets, as he enjoys taking dancers on a journey through the various genres of electronic music. His involvement with Untitled allowed him to create spaces for like-minded dancers, the LGBTQ+ community, and allies. Now living in Berlin, Farhan continues his career as a DJ and is currently working with the Quest Agency as a booking agent. in cookie series #042 Farhan takes us on a fantasy journey through ambient, dub, breaks, IDM, tribal sounds & much more.
