Born in Dunedin NZ, Cosuma spent formative years in bands and in crowds in Otago's most important live music venues. It was here amid a wealth of talented artists and their performances that he developed a taste for an unashamed raw approach to music delivery and the response that it elicits.

Now having lived in Melbourne for the last 4 years, an increased level of exposure to dance music and its community has seen him evolve into an artist capable of channelling attitude and emotion through his machines in both a studio and live environment.

This quirky 6 tracker showcases Cosuma's raw approach to house music, with punchy, stripped back drums, warm pads and basslines from go to whoa. Vocal samples from old VCR's are cleverly woven throughout the EP taking you into Cosuma's world.

PREMIERE: Cosuma - 4 My Crew [Love Above Records]

Effervescent nu-disco act Bad Business Club present their second supremely refined full-length album, the deliciously sun-soaked and harmonically rich 'Naked Neighbor'.

Following several releases on the revered Midnight Riot, the Bad Business Club return with eight delicately honeyed cuts certain to ring out blissfully over pool-sides and ocean panoramas throughout the long hot summer and beyond. Informed by an irresistible blend of ‘Moroder-infused’ disco vibes, yacht rock flair, and understated nu-disco gloss, their sound is the aural embodiment of a gentle summer breeze. 'Naked Neighbor' was written at a hilltop cottage in Puerto Rico, while examining the theme of leaving old baggage behind as they reflected on their break from everyday life in Brooklyn.

The infectious vocal of opening cut ‘Flip me Over' glides over lush pads, hypnotic arps and tight drum patterns to create a dynamic disco bullet that revels in both night-time excitement and morning confusion. The bittersweet refrains of 'Tired of Being Over You', are subtly melancholic and life-affirming as they weave the tale of “washing away an old flame”. 'Too Hot to Tame (Prelude)’ is a sunrise meditation, with celestial keys soaring over reverbed atmospherics and psychedelic guitars, co-produced with San Francisco-based DJ Cole Odin. The horizontal 'Runnin' from You' showcases sugary harmonies forged between Alex Van's baritone and Sam Behr's enchanting lead. The vocals power over a tight bed of funk-flecked instrumentation, making way for guitar solos, deeply weighted bass and crisp drums.

Named after the Puerto Rican house in which the album was recorded, the nu-disco energy of 'Casa Soleada' bursts with good time vibes, before the tempo drops making way for sweeping pads and muted guitar plucks of 'Reflections' to meditate over the album's theme. 'Early Morning Hours' unfolds to an engaging arrangement, as the vocals drive the track along a steady groove, with wistful lyrics combining layers of detailed melodies and emotive harmonies. Closing this sunny album is LA-based WOLFY who delivers his ‘Summer Sunshine Version’ of 'Flip me Over'. Stripped backed sonics allow space for the soothing vocals to breathe before astral synths add a mind-altering sheen to the intoxicating groove.

Byron the Aquarius (aka Byron Blaylock), an accomplished keys player as much as he is a producer, has a deep love for the organic side of music. This shines through in his creations, back to his debut EP in 2007. More recently, Blaylock’s skillful jazz beats have found a home on the one and only Jeff Mills’ Axis Records. From his birthplace in Birmingham Alabama, Blaylock has grown into an international figure of acclaim for his explorative compositions. 

Already having two successful EPs with Shall Not Fade under his belt - most recently marking the labels’ 50th release with What Up Doe? Vol.2 - Byron the Aquarius returns for a gorgeous double LP. Expect the smoothness of deep house, melodic instrumental hip hop production of the J Dilla creed along with tight jazz pieces.

The New Beginning LP showcases range and expertise from the off, exploding with pulsing discordant jazz in ‘Amaya’s Voyage’. Psychedelic g-funk is the MO of ‘Smoke One For Huckaby’, before a B-side milieu of jazz and hip hop reminiscent of Guru’s Jazzmatazz. The album settles into a deep groove across its C-side, the highlight of which is the percussive workout of ‘Underground Was Black’, complemented delicately with dazed pads and buoyant but smokey lounge jazz sounds in ‘Cosmic Jazz’. Off kilter hip hop shines through in ‘Last Time We Gonna Do This’ and its eclectic sound palette, then we are blindsided by the heavy electro distortion of ‘The End Of The World’. The record closes with a collaboration of the genres explored throughout, pieced together into the pumping ‘Lost People of Tron’. The album feels like a lap of honour around all the influences in Byron The Aquarius’ sound - it’s yet another artistic triumph.

West Coast mainstay maverick Dave Aju launches his anticipated new artist imprint Elbow Grease with this timelessly sublime dance floor trip, dripping with outer-space soul and deep ocean-floor sonics. “X17”, a reference to the hypothetical particle and potential Fifth Force discovery, is equal parts warm and cold, smooth and ruff, as a raw UR-schooled electro rhythm base plows through various known musical barriers, adorned with worldly percussion hits, moving synth textures, subtle jazz motifs and vocal incantations.

As one of the last sonic transmissions put to tape at the mighty yet now-defunct Machine Limited/G-Son Studios of The Beastie Boys’ fame and legacy in Atwater Village LA, it’s fit with a solid spine via a driven TR-909, lush OB-Xa leads and PolySix pads, a serpentine SH-101 arp and tight Linn Drum layers. The generously unfolding “Main Mix” is accompanied by both a potent “Rhythm Dub” stripped back for maximum impact, and an ambient high “Viiibe” version offering a more immersive listen and alternative options for adventurous DJs to work into a mix as they feel. A fine intro to the genre-defiant, focus-on-each-piece Elbow Grease credo.
