The latest edition of our free download series welcomes Emi Galvan for his first appearance. Argentinean DJ and producer Emi Galvin has consistently defied expectations throughout his much-lauded decade-long career. Through the success of early tracks like 2016's ‘Taking Over’ and ‘Universe’, the Buenos Aires resident emerged into one of the progressive scene’s most promising talents. A rich musical background with time spent in rock bands playing guitar and singing gave Emi’s electronic compositions a measurable creative edge. This elusive sound did not go unnoticed as he quickly earned the praise of genre tastemakers Cid Inc, Eelke Kleijn, Guy J, Guy Mantzur, Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren; while landing career defining releases via Balance, Sudbeat and The Soundgarden. Also an accomplished DJ, Emi’s long undulating sets have been applauded for their impeccable track selection and exquisite programming. As one of Argentina’s most in demand DJs, Emi has travelled the world, delighting crowds in Egypt, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Spain and more. A recent highlight in the Argentine’s sets has been his unofficial remix of Massive Attack’s ‘Girl I Love You.’ Released in 2010 as part of the band’s ‘Heligoland’ album, the song would go on to become one of the LP’s most recognizable tracks, racking up more than ten million plays on Spotify in the process. Emi’s version has seen considerable live play in recent months, with Guy J, Guy Mantzur, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Sebastien Leger and more all airing the remix across their sets. Returning to Meanwhile with a full debut EP, Zankee Gulati continues his journey as a rising progressive house talent with the “Mind Opener / Magnetic Island” EP. A single remix comes from Argentinean duo, Analog Jungs.

A recognised force in his Sydney hometown, Zankee Gulati has continued to see his star shine increasingly bright within the underground dance firmament. An artist and promoter renowned for his spellbinding sets across Sydney’s clubs and for bringing the likes of Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Ben Bohmer to New South Wales, the Australian’s performance in the studio has only cemented a rapidly growing reputation. A mounting catalogue of sumptuous offerings has increasingly featured on the likes of Sudbeat Music, The Soundgarden and Balance Music, plus a standout contribution to John Digweed’s “Futuro” compilation on Bedrock, with “Low Tide” in collaboration with fellow countryman, Jamie Stevens. Two appearances on GMJ & Matter’s imprints in December 2022 saw “The Magic Spoon” feature on “Beyond The Horizon, Vol. 2”, while “HereAfter” found its way onto the flagship label’s, “Meanwhile Excursions, Vol. 3” in July 2023.

Now hitting the heights once more, the light and airy tones of “Mind Opener” reveal themselves over a strong kick and ticking percussive top-line. Rippling arps and a strong motif keep the energy high as analogue edge gradually develops within the latter with an open filter creates a range of harmonic frequencies that shine over a beatless breakdown. Dropping back into the hefty rhythmic groove, the track then draws to its meticulously sculpted conclusion. “Magnetic Island” is a deep, chugging powerhouse. Full of rhythmic prowess and building elegantly through thumping kick and shaker-driven groove, a beautiful melodic passage develops within a hypnotic arp that filters to a powerful denouement in the final stages. The strong rhythmic narrative of its predecessor then finds its place once more in the final stages.

A single remix comes from Argentinean duo, Analog Jungs, who first came to Meanwhile prominence on their 3-track “Surrender” EP in March 2022. Already regulars on blue-chip labels that include Mango Alley, Hope Recordings and Manual Music, the Córdoba-based pair excel once more with a chunky interpretation that creates a trademark rhythmic foundation and driving bassline groove. Adding tropes from Zankee Gulati’s original, they turn “Mind Opener” into an exciting and dynamic new track that is redolent in additional production material and melodic invention. The result is a powerful remix that is an exceptional addition to the EP.

Alto Astral are Matias Villafañe and Martina Mozzoni, an Argentinian pair based in Spain making amazing, emotional music as a live performance duo incorporating live vocals, guitars, pianos, synthesizers, and controllers. Touring across the globe, they have been nominated for Best Duo and Best Live Set in M.E.C Awards in Argentina, and have an impressive back catalogue on labels such as The Soundgarden, Or Two Strangers and Movement. 

Opening with 'Between Us' starts off like a sleeping giant, drawing the listener in. A tribal beat gets the dancefloor moving joins quickly by dancing hats and pretty arps. Martinas vocals are heartfelt and instantly captivating drawing even the curious passer-by deeper into their emotional web of wonder! Next up, 'Luciérnaga' begins in quiet ambience before launching into a tough progressive groove that hypnotises with delicate arps and a thunderous bassline. Super deep, but highly danceable, the energy is undeniable.

Franky Wah makes his debut with a suitably epic original and teams up with El Maestro for an interesting collaboration project.

Very much a product of the modern age, where artists are in fact multitasking entrepreneurs, Franky has shot into the  music scene with savvy business practice and the musical skills to back it up. Setting up his own brand, SHÉN; a label, events company and clothing offshoot, has given him a base to get exposure and thus, release on a cross section of labels from seminal underground strongholds, Anjunabeat to Bedrock to LNOE to Major labels like EMI and Polydor.

His opener, a solo effort, has been collecting massive reactions from the clubs - as certified by the very own Hernan Cattaneo, eager supporter of the track. ‘Riptide’ does exactly that from the off. Groovy, understated but quietly deadly, once the vibe grabs hold, it’s almost impossible to resist. Developing over the first section, slowly at first, but then increasingly quickly as the tension builds, Franky drops a killer track that will pique everyone's interest.

For their collaboration, Franky and Hernan present the uptempo monster, Groovejet. Pulsating, energetic and just a little dark, this is everything you’d expect from the master at peak time with the whole club in the palm of his hand. This years Scorchio for sure!
