Next in the series we head up north for Manchester based Talking Motion! Matt is an avid record collector with a passion for high fidelity audio and keen ear for a whole variety of sounds. He has previously hosted radio shows on Londons Balamii Radio, where he shared an eclectic mix of jazz, funk, new wave, house and more. A regular host at Brilliant Corners and closer to home can be found (playing) at Nam, Eastern Bloc records and others, we high recommend catching one of his sets. I'm not sure if this is the actual set that Andrew Weatherall played at the New Years Eve 1998/99 party at NY Sushi,  or if it was a promo mix given out on cassette around the same time.

Although Lisbon may be a far cry from the industrial factories of Detroit or the rave days outside of the Orbital ring-road, that doesn’t stop the Portuguese DJ and producer Photonz from channelling those epicentres of electronica in his music. Flittering somewhere between the cosmic, sci-fi leanings of Drexciya and the euphoric techno from the UK’s ecstacy charged era, Photonz has been welcomed in by the likes of Andy Blake's Dissident (RIP), Creme Organization and the DJ Haus-headed Unknown To The Unknown. 

Closer to home, since founding One Eyed Jacks, the label has become one of the go-to outlets for Portugal’s next wave of electronic up-and-comers, representing his native Lisbon and spearheading a burgeoning underground scene in the city that continues to become stronger by the day. Since launching Lisbon-based Rádio Quântica with Violet, Photonz has stepped out from behind the booth to become something of a tastemaker on the airwaves, exploring the outer edges of house and techno and garnering a reputation that we can’t wait to showcase in the FM fields.

Photonz’s infatuation with UK rave and acid-house is no secret, and as we induct him into the Field Maneuvers mix series Photonz celebrates only the most hedonistic years from the Second Summer of Love with a haul of forgotten free party classics from 1988 - 93. 

Photonz: "To be honest, I made this mix as kind of love letter to the UK. Apart from a few classics here and there it's mostly comprised of under-appreciated UK house I collected from second hand shops throughout London while I lived there. Bargain-bin stuff. The period of music I focus on here is 88 until 93, so there's a bit of bleep stuff, some Irdial, a few early rave records and some clubbier bits too."

As a producer/composer, King Britt fuses his knowledge of music history from many cultures and genres from afro to gospel, soul to disco, bringing sounds from the past into the present.

His relentless drive and passion was obvious from en early stage, having cut his craft as the wax poetic for the Grammy Award winning Digable Planets, he's since had a variety of monikers including his sci-fi leaning work as Fhloston Paradigm.

We're delighted to have him join our mix series with this 60 minute offering of meandering house and soulful electronic jams. Enjoy.

Ceri is a producer and disc jockey who has made a name for herself through hard work and graft. She hasn't taken the simple route as any former resident of infamous London party Jaded will tell you. Nine hour sets in the small, odd hours of the day allowed her to hone her skills and amass a reputation as an intricate and well versed selector.  She knows how to read the room.

In 2017 she launched her label, Find Your Own Records. The name seems like little coincidence for a dj who has worked tirelessly to carve a niche for herself with releases on the label having gone on to be supported by the likes of Ben UFO, K-Hand, Ryan Elliot, Move D and more. 

Ceri's own musical taste is broad, at time susprising and as delightful on the dancefloor as it is in the headphones. We are delighted to be able to feature her as part of our mix series.
