Sonologyst is the project of Italian producer Raffaele Pezzella, devoted to exploring the interplay between sound and contemporary mythologies. His music moves between scientific and Fortean documentary-style soundscapes and the sculpting of post-industrial sonic environments, often drawing on themes such as cosmic horror, space exploration, secret histories, and the unseen forces shaping human existence. As Sonologyst, Pezzella’s albums, including works released on Cold Spring Records, are noted for their cinematic scope and psychological depth. Critics have praised his ability to merge documentary realism with abstract atmospherics, creating immersive sound worlds that feel both intellectual and otherworldly, inviting listeners to inhabit the spaces between science and speculation. Since 2014, Pezzella has been serving as the curator of Unexplained Sounds, a 'Global Network of Aural Disorientation.' The network's primary label, Unexplained Sounds Group, was established in 2015. Currently, the network encompasses subsidiaries such as Eighth Tower Records, ZeroK, and Reverse Alignment. In 2021, Eighth Tower label expanded its offerings to include book publications and an online magazine (Eighth Tower). Additionally, Pezzella hosts a streaming radio program titled 'The Recognition Test.' Sonologyst's recordings have been released by notable labels including Cold Spring Records, Unexplained Sounds Group, Eighth Tower Records.
