Dutch vinyl-only label Filament light up our lives again with another V/A concept EP that guides us gently
through an entire night. And while the inaugural release took us through the hazy daze of an open air festival,
002 takes us back to the source... The dark sweaty basement where your best friends are your dancefloor
neighbours, your dancing feet and fat speaker stack.
Three artists, one unified spirit that builds dynamically through the night: Russian bandleader Kito Jempere
ignites the night with ‘11pm’. Teaming up with LovvLovver, the bass player from his band, together they lay
down eight minutes of midtempo, hip-slinking hypnotic funk. Loose drums, full fat groove, it’s every bit the
consummate night-warmer it needs to be.
Onward we slink and writhe into the sweetest hours of the night; ‘3am’ duties are taken care of by exciting new
Aussie duo Donald’s House. Blazing off the back of their recent releases on Nick Hoppner’s Touch From A
Distance, their contribution marks the peak of this nocturnal trip. Big slap bass, epic cosmic leads and an
undulating bassline so fat it would make Moroder blush; this one works whatever hour you play it.

we find ourselves floating all the way home on a bed handcrafted by Mr Fingers himself. Timeless, soft-focus,
hopeful; the perfect soundtrack doesn’t just end the night... It leaves you wanting more.

Funnuvojere’s latest instalment, Minority Resist, comes from Czech Republic and it’s signed by Martin Kuška under his moniker Goodbye Mirage.

Martin has been performing and producing ambient and synthy compositions under his real name for many years, releasing a few LPs for the US cassette labels Sacred Phrases and Origin Peoples, mostly influenced by writing, drawing and photography, as well as by the rhythms of village life. 

Funnuvojere’s new ethereal EP interweaves nostalgia for the past and reflections on the present. The EP is imbued with Martin’s memories of discovering Berlin’s Love Parade, the golden cradle of 90s trance and progressive house. Emotional tension and unexpected polymeters characterise the EP, with minimalistic notes rippling back from a distant future. Careful design produces a unique sound and grain that will blissfully envelop those lucky enough to hear it played.

Amsterdam’s champion and Stalwart Dr San Proper takes over the mix series for a 2 hour journey through electronica, dub, pop and anything that dares to sit in between. An undeniable showman, this mix gets the full Proper treatment; expect unpredictable blends countered with eclectic selections, all wrapped up with a healthy dose of twisted soul and groove. It’s that diverse sound which has carved out a name for himself since his first string of releases on Rush Hour many moons ago in the mid 2000’s;  and still rings strong  on his upcoming record on MUSAR, riffy, bassy and everything you associate with the San P sound.

“New label on the block Raakvlak returns for its second release, this time branching out into more local territories. Deze Hoofden Praten is a vast recollection of the idiosyncratic work of spoken-word guru Rik van Boeckel.”

Next in line for Raakvlak is a recollection of the wicked work of poet, spoken-word expert and all-round expressionist Rik van Boeckel. Deze Hoofden Praten is the result of two mid- eighties tapes released on Kubus Cassettes, the same label that accommodated the work of mind- stretching ambient of subterranean-chill pioneer Enno Velthuys. Although van Boeckel’s oeuvre contains some similar elements, the outcome here is much wilder; a musical hodgepodge of new wave pop, ambient and quirky dub.

What’s more, emphasis is just as much on the Dada- bordering poetry at present as on the sonical equivalent. Think Ton Lebbink’s cousin if he would’ve been into new age instead of punk. Certainly one to turn heads and ears alike, this may serve as a (re-)introduction of a singular mind to the wider universe.
