ex machina is a music project founded by Claudio Chiriatti in 1999. right from the start Claudio used the possibilities of alternative distribution ways of his output over the internet. the first two albums were distributed exclusively over the internet. after a two year hiatus on new releases Claudio signed a contract with the label FUEGO to release the music under that label.
after he moved back to his roots from Düsseldorf to his birth town Clausthal-Zellerfeld in 2008, Claudio realized that working in the studio alone is boring and he began looking for some new collaborators for ex machina. during his search he found his old friend Tobias Schwerdt who coincidentally just has been moved back from Berlin to Clausthal and who has played drum in several bands and projects in Berlin. after some trial sessions in the machina we realized very soon that this is a fertile and exciting partnership.

File Transfer Protocol is the product of a post industrial sound which originated in the fading steel towns of north eastern Ohio. A combination of driving distorted guitars, mangled synths, processors and other various electronic gadgetry helps project an overall foreboding sound that effectively paints a picture of isolation and introspection. This area of the country also spawned such bands as Filter, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, DEVO, DINK and Marilyn Manson.
