In conjunction with compiler and highlife researcher Dr. Markus Coester, Soundway Records present a very special release. Double CD & triple 180g gatefold vinyl (with a bonus 7 inch).

This 45 includes the two first ever recordings by a certain Fela Ransome Kuti with his band The Highlife Rakers. Recorded by Melodisc in London in 1960 both tracks have been unearthed after more than fifty years in hiding.

In many ways this compilation is a prequel of sorts to Soundway's groundbreaking Nigeria & Ghana Special compilations, telling the early story of modern highlife's foundation & formulation. It traces the music from West Africa to London, adding elements of jazz, mambo and calypso along the way and paving the way for the afro sounds of the 1970s.

Accompanied by a 44 page CD booklet and 12 page vinyl booklet, the notes by Dr. Coester include rare photographs, labels and advert reproductions alongside some stunning and very rare recordings.

April 2015 sees Boston's influential 90s pop-punk legends the Lemonheads release their one and only BBC Session; "Bored On The Fourth Of July’" making it commercially available for the first time ever.

Following on from the comprehensive reissue series of their early punk years, this startling and fuzzed-up collection of unreleased material serves as the perfect firecracker blast from Fire Records.

On the Fourth of July in 1989, the Lemonheads entered the hallowed studios of the BBC. The band were at the end of a European tour and only too happy to find themselves recording a session for the legendary John Peel. 

These blistering tracks are taken from their formative years; wild and raw, they capture the intense and volatile nature of a band often in turmoil, both with their pop and punk instincts and often with one another.

The Lemonheads John Peel Sessions are now available on 45rpm 12" vinyl for the first time.

Scientific Records is proud to present a brand new album series on the label called “Techmosphere”. Inspired by the sub-genre of drum&bass described by ASC as “techmospherics” and first seen on his legendary “Covert Operations” label between 2000-2009, this LP series consists mostly of a mixture between deep atmospheric drum&bass and more dancefloor oriented ‘techy’ vibes.

Techmosphere .01 LP consists of 12 tracks in total by various artists, 3 of which are also released on a 12” vinyl sampler. This contains Scientific label head Mav’s energetic roller “World of Sound”, the beautiful “Milkyway Marathon” by highly talented newcomers Area 31 (featuring their own vocals), as well as the melodic “Miss Ives” by Chicago-based drum&bass veteran Stunna.

Completing the digital 12-track LP are Seathasky’s vocal-based “Fidelity”, Actraiser’s amen-roller “Serenity”, another heavy amen-roller by Dutch producer Deepflow called “Walking with Spirits”, Spanish trio Inertia’s more minimal sounding “Letting Go”, Parhelia’s spaced out “Brotherhood of the Neon Lotus”, Polish producer Radicall’s “Imagination”, Physics’ atmospheric roller “Confessions” and finishing off the LP with 2 more beautiful chilled out tracks “Deep Inside My Soul” by newcomer Eugenics Eight and “Human Evolution”, a collaboration track between Camino Blue label heads P.B.K and UK-based Tim Cant.

Opening with a driving bassline and soft, hazy acoustics, ‘Leave The Light On’ displays Sailor & I’s flair for building multi-layered soundscapes through the use of delicate instrumentation and intricate rhythmic patterns. His distinctive voice, itself a standout feature of all his work to date, lends heart to the track too, relaying a sense of emotional immediacy sometimes lost in translation on records that look to strike a chord within both live and electronic settings. That said, his glossy, synth-rich sound design on euphoric B-side ‘A Tiger In My Hands’ is equally as impressive, itself a track defined by it's shiny, bubbling melodies and complex percussive textures. Thoughtful and insular in the best possible sense, ‘Leave The Light On’ thus feels like a fitting introduction to the beautiful, melancholy world of Sailor & I.

In April of 2008, we at Sub Pop Records had the good fortune to release the US version of Antidotes, the debut album by Oxford, UK quintet Foals. Antidotes was a special album. Two years on from that impressive introduction, a choice has been made–-rather than contort Antidotes’ lithesome guitars into ever more elaborate patterns, Total Life Forever is the sound of a band settling into and surveying the decay of old protocols. With this new album, Foals strip their sound back and turn themselves inside out searching for that invisible human thing. The result is an album as persuasive emotionally as Antidotes  was physically. Whereas that album constantly reinforced its own presence by filling the air with yelping and polyrhythm, tracks on Total Life Forever such as disarming opener “Blue Blood,” “2 Trees” and the astonishing “Black Gold” are happier to leave gaps for the listener to explore in mind’s ear and eye. Written primarily in the basement of their Oxford HQ (“The House of Supreme Mathematics”) and recorded in Gothenburg with former Clor man Luke Smith, Total Life Forever finds Foals singing rather than shouting, emotional as well as functional. The band’s soul-search reveals new antidotes found in infinite, internal spaces rather than carved violently upon the air–-Total Life Forever feels more the work of artists than artisans. It’s a triumph that they’ve managed to remain a band of progress and propulsion while investigating that vast, dark space lurking inside themselves-–that gap between ribs where “nature, or god or whatever you wanna call it, will come in.”

It is the genesis of a new collaboration between  Dhrupad singer Amelia Cuni and myself on Pan-Ney , in which Indian Ragas and Just Intonation pitches find a common ground.
We are also using delays and moving sinetone drones to support the tunings. This is  Part 1 of a work-in-progress , including sections with other invented instruments.The duration the whole composition still in the air.
