Following their critically acclaimed debut EP ‘You’re Welcome’, Modern Guilt have kicked off 2022 in style by announcing the release of brand new single ‘Joy Control’.

Hailed by tastemakers including John Kennedy (Radio X), praised by This Feeling as one of the ‘Best New Bands’, and championed by the likes of Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream), Shell Zenner (BBC Radio / Amazing Radio) and Rowena Alice (BBC Radio / Boogaloo Radio / Islington Radio), Modern Guilt “are re-igniting and modernising their era and genre influences in a strong flame of colour” (Listen To Discover).

‘Joy Control’ is the band’s first release following last year’s ‘You’re Welcome’ EP. Produced by long-term collaborator Mikey Buckley, the new single sits somewhere between the sounds of Motown and the New Wave scene of 1970’s New York City. While lyrically it depicts the frustrations of watching an individual, for a multitude of reasons, choose not to become someone you thought they could be.

‘Joy Control’ will be released digitally on Friday 25th February and will be accompanied by an official visualiser.

Holiday Ghosts are specialists in keepin’ it real. They’re interested in one thing only: communicating their music and art in a way that is as concise and to the point as possible. Call it garagy, jangly, rock n rolly, indie, punky, poppy, whatever you wanty. Truth, the blueprint of the band was first laid down referencing bands of a raw Garage Rock style but that was 2015. Wake up its 2022 y’all. Yeah they still use the same old instruments, yeah the 1 drum beat Katja learned at the start remains ever present but it never fails to feel new . Kind of like how sex rejuvenates itself each new time. 

Since their 3rd LP North Street Air, released by FatCat Records in 2021 ,founding members Katja Rackin and Sam Stacpoole have found a new dream team. Again from the endless well of ex Falmouth / Troubadour Studio musicians, they’re joined now by B. Spanks on 2nd guitar and vocals and Morgan Lloyd-Mathews on longhorn bass. The band is tight, the sound is down.

We realised though, that we often find ourselves playing pretty hard and fast at gigs chasing more punky, and rock n roll sounds.
