This track is a piano interlude that I wrote for the Bourbon Street Blues album, specifically the song Just A Waitress. The interlude contains the expectation our hero, the young musician, feels as he walks toward the bar where his girlfriend, the gorgeous blond waitress, works for $2.15/hour plus tips. Our hero is walking home from a gig at that open air bar that used to sit right on Jackson Square back in the 80s. His excitement slowly builds. The night is dark. The rain is gently falling in a light sprinkle. Cobblestones are illuminated in the street lamps. The piano bar is not far, just half a block down Bourbon Street on the left. He can see the yellow light from inside the bar gently streaming out across the ancient solid stone threshold. He knows that within the cozy bar his blue eyed girl is waiting for him with the same expectation. But in his heart there is also a deep sadness because he knows that nothing in this life is lasting. His heart is quietly breaking because he is deeply aware of the transience of all things. The only thing he can do is hold her in his arms one more time before death takes all and the waves of the great ocean sweep over the Earth.
