Shades Of Sound Radio - May 2025

Phonk D, born Dirk Bretträger, is a German DJ, producer, and label boss known for his signature blend of house, disco, funk, and deep grooves. Based in Darmstadt, he launched the label Footjob in 2014, a home for soulful, underground house music. He also co-founded Dedicate with Jofeca, focusing on instrumental beats and more experimental cuts.

Dirk’s journey began in the '90s within Frankfurt’s legendary club scene, where venues like Dorian Gray and Omen sparked a lifelong love for electronic music. This passion soon evolved into a career rooted in vinyl culture, party organization, and groove-driven sound. His deep respect for records and analog vibes has earned him recognition across the global house scene.

QMLS May Radio Show May - George Mihaly & Leon Sweet

Luca Roccatagliati, better known as DJ Rocca, is a genre-defying Italian DJ and producer whose music fuses jazz, funk, disco, house, and italo with an analog, hands-on approach. A classically trained flutist from Reggio Emilia, Rocca began his journey in the late ’90s as Maffia Soundsystem, building his reputation through breakbeat and drum & bass.

Over the years, Rocca has collaborated with international icons like Dimitri From Paris, Daniele Baldelli, and Howie B, and formed projects like Ajello, Crimea X, Supersonic Lovers, and Electric Tree. His rich sound has found a home on prestigious labels including Compost, !K7, Gomma, Rekids, and Futureboogie.

Known for championing analog gear, Rocca emphasizes human touch in his music-crafting soulful, danceable tracks. He also runs his own label, Danny Was A Drag King, curating eclectic electronic artists.

With performances at Fabric, Berghain, and festivals like Sonar and Glastonbury, Luca remains a revered figure in electronic music. His recent projects, like Roccapofortuna with Capofortuna, the EP Code 041 and the album CocoRocca Discoteca, show his commitment to pushing boundaries while honoring the roots of dance music.

Superhero/ Sound Manipulator


Flash Atkins is a super hero who had his gravy days in the 80s saving the world with his ability to manipulate sound.  Unfortunately he's fallen on hard times and can be spotted in the less salubrious parts of London, Manchester and West Yorkshire often stoned or drunk on borrowed money and time.

To make ends meet he uses his special powers to remix and make deep disco music for Paper Recordings.

Let’s hope it gets him back on track.
