This October will see Mexico City’s leading CVMR imprint release the ‘Lip Reading’ EP from Soul Of Hex, backed with two remixes from Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers, and two more courtesy of Vin Sol and Ny*Ak.

Tijuana, Mexico based artists 4004 & Sebastien Vornhaus launch their exciting new project (with guest appearances by Berlin-based Albert Vogt), entitled Soul Of Hex. Between them the duo can boast material on the likes of MCDE, Quintessentials and their own Vicario Musique, the new project which has already seen huge support from Larry Heard (leading to the remixes on this package), is a multi-instrumentalist live and
visual show showcasing their newly formed, sophisticated house sound.

Kicking things off is the original mix of ‘Lip Reading’ from Soul Of Hex, a gritty, low-slung house number employing Juno bass hooks, warm blossoming pad melodies and bumpy organic percussion to form the hypnotic and understated opening cut.

Following are the two mixes from House veteran Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers, the first of which Heard’s ‘Jazzy Dub Remix’, showcases the striking production style that he’s so highly praised for, as the name would suggest embracing a jazz-tinged aesthetic, while retaining the warmth and charm of the original track. Following is the second offering from Heard, the ‘Midnight Remix’, taking on a darker, more atmospheric aesthetic with this mix bringing the cosseting melodies and rugged bass to forefront.

Closing the release is two more takes on ‘Lip Reading’, first up is the Vin Sol Remix, which strips things back to a percussive led state, bringing organic rhythms into prominence while the soft pads flutter away in the depths of the background. Ny*Ak then rounds things off with this interpretation, dropping the tempo and generating a
rawer edge with the production, as loosely programmed drums and evolving jazz licks intricately flourish over the track’s seven and a half minute duration.

Flash Atkins' Strolling brings the soul with a track that is as loose and easy as a Mediterranean summer. Amy Collins sings of an early morning walk home after a loved up encounter on the dance floor as Dan Goldman lays the keys and grooves for some disco love.

True to form, it's a global EP with artists from Mexico City, Sydney, Naples, and Hebden Bridge. First up, label favourite La Guardia De La Luz does what he does best, with en epic psychedelic disco mid-tempo chugger. Subtle rhythm guitar, bouncing bass and 80s pads set the scene for strings and stabs as they work their magic.

Next up, Uomo Meccanico takes the red eye for a late night hypnotic slice of electronic house music. Shimmering stabs, trippy pads and filtered vocal sample build into epic deepness. One for the floor as the light creeps in at 6am and everything starts going sideways.

Johnny Deep takes his electronic funk low and slow. Pops, glitches, and burbles provide some serious swing over a bottom end that rides the sub. Slow burning dance floor ignition guaranteed.

Rising Bristol star JOELY brings 2 hot B side tracks which show how hot a talent he is at such a young age. Hive Mind creates a playful grit which will get a dance floor moving in the early hours of a set, providing a steady rhythm which never wavers. Jungle Walk takes us down a darker, ethereal path which will make any soundsystem wobble with the thick wonky textures that JOELY expertly weaves in. Mind this gap.

For this release we were approached by our friends at the Matsiko World Orphan Choir to collaborate on their single 'Rise', helping to spread their message of hope.

The mission of Matsiko World Orphan Choir is to use the unifying power of music to uplift every child, bring love, hope and joy to all who listen, and inspire the generosity that provides a complete education for vulnerable children.

Matsiko World Orphan Choir members are ambassadors of hope for the voiceless and invisible children of the world coming from Liberia, India, Peru and Nepal.

The choir featured in "Rise" are based in Liberia and have been on many tours of the USA, performing in over 38 states.

The project aims to use music and art to give a complete education to a further 10,000 of the world's poorest vulnerable and at-risk children and end the cycle of poverty.

The Matsiko World Orphan Choir's amazing music showcases their voices, talent and spirit, dismissing the myth that the poorest children in the world are worthless.

They are giving a voice to the voiceless, spreading love, hope and joy worldwide.

Miotek - an electronic music DJ and producer originally from Latvia, now based in Bristol, UK. His musical journey began in the mid-90s, profoundly influenced by the raw, innovative sounds of Chicago and Detroit techno. This early exposure shaped Miotek's unique style, which seamlessly blends various genres of dance and chill-out electronic music. Starting his DJ career in the late 90s, Miotek quickly gained a reputation for his eclectic and expansive sets, which take listeners on a journey through the diverse landscapes of electronic music. His passion led him to found Seven Sisters Records, a label that focuses on releasing Latvian electronic music artist.

Juno Review:

There's more dewy-eyed, loved-up re-edit action to be found on this second salve from the mysterious Love Creation crew. Opener "Turn My Back On You" is a sultry, late night delight; an impressively seductive rearrangement of a slow burning, Sade style shuffler full of lazy guitar lines, rising and falling bass, and crotch-stirring vocals. Stay tuned to side A for the psychedelic disco-rock trip that is "Mr Bates" - and, yes, it's definitely Balearic - or flip to the B for the freshly baked soul shuffle of "Take Me With You". All three edits are undoubtedly winners, and should suit warm up sets, afternoon jams, and dancers that don't need a hectic tempo to get down.

Alex Barck releases ‘Re-set’, the first in a series of 12” vinyl only singles leading to his debut solo album ‘Reunion’. As well as heralding Barck’s first solo work, it also features the future album’s first featured guest in Bristol vocalist Pete Josef.

Three more 12" singles will be released throughout the year before ‘Reunion’ drops later in 2013.

Barck and family left Germany last summer for a new home on the idyllic La Reunion Indian Ocean island, which gifts the album its ambiguous title as well as a theme of new beginnings and fusion. It is here where he has been progressively guiding ‘Reunion’ through to completion for the past year.

Alex Barck is a founding member of the renowned DJ and producer collective Jazzanova, one half of the Prommer & Barck project and A&R manager for record label Sonar Kollektiv.

Superhero/ Sound Manipulator


Flash Atkins is a super hero who had his gravy days in the 80s saving the world with his ability to manipulate sound.  Unfortunately he's fallen on hard times and can be spotted in the less salubrious parts of London, Manchester and West Yorkshire often stoned or drunk on borrowed money and time.

To make ends meet he uses his special powers to remix and make deep disco music for Paper Recordings.

Let’s hope it gets him back on track.
