Cody, the London multi-talent musician, and Kapote, the Berlin-based creative head of Toy Tonics have a lot in common. Both come from studying jazz, knowing different instruments, having played in bands, and at the same time being DJs with a huge passion and the skill to rock thousands of people every weekend at the Toy Tonics Jams with a wild mix of different music. They have what we call THE VIBE. Soulful, catchy, intense. When they play records at a party and when they work on tracks. Both play keyboards, bass, guitar, and drums. Both sing. And both have funny nicknames that journalists gave them: Cody Currie was called “the Tom Misch of House music” and Kapote the “Wes Anderson of electronic music”. Makes us laugh but also fits well. And yes: Both are a bit crazy... like every extremely talented musician.

UK deep delvers Soul Quest are raring to set 2025 right, after an inaugural 2024 spent establishing their footing in V/A selections comps of a higher-grade but still playful character. A wicked year so far has heard them incant two especial EPs from Jean-Jez and Max Sinal, and that's not to mention another heater V/A of their own: the three-a-sider 'Maintain Attitude'. Now five further remixes of Sinal's earlier 'Intentions' setpiece surface, ringing out the room by way of careful and frequent attention, paid to the track by Frits Wentink, JT Donaldson and Flying Moth. The Live Mix from Sinal at the end is also second to none, its rapid-echo plucks a treat.

Find a better bassline this year and I'll eat my hat. Lyon's @mike-parton-officieux comes up trumps on this track from his and his brother Danny's 'Extraball' EP on @pommefriterec with a sublime recreation of late '90s French touch filter disco, serving up an insanely funky bassline along with a jaunty, filtered horn sample and a chewy phaser sound that's one of the best Daft Punk imitations I've ever heard. Tremendous.

Dutch edit maestro Pete Blaker debuts on RNT with a pair of extended play summertime heaters! LOVE AND DEVOTION has been a staple in Harvey’s sets this year, and for good reason; it’s quite simply a disco banger of legendary proportions that reaches peak after peak in the course of its nearly 16 glorious minutes. On the flip DISOC takes us on a deep and mystical journey, with pulsing bass, shimmery synth and guitar work, swirling strings building to a climactic vocal hook. PREMIERE: Pete Blaker - Disoc [Razor-N-Tape]

Pete Blaker has been making head-turning (or rather head-nodding) moves of late and he continues his run of form on the excellently named Funkyjaws Music label. This fourth instalment in the Discolifting series kicks off with 'Zulu', a nice fat-bottomed and dubby Afro disco sound with a super sweet vocal and some funky guitar riffs. 'Instrumental' then steps out with more widescreen synths and snappy low ends with more than a hint of 'Bakerman' groove goodness. 'See The Light' is lavish and bright disco with 80s synths and 'Heaven' closes with a more subdued and introspective sound.

Ed Royal - Tweak Da Jazz (Flashbaxx Remix)

Since being discovered by the Mainz-based lounge label “Wohnton” in 2003, Flashbaxx’s jazz and funky beats have been featured on international compilations—including releases on Sony Music, EMI, and Ministry of Sound. His productions appear alongside artists such as Moby, Jazzanova, Blank & Jones, Die Fantastischen Vier and Bonobo and are regularly played by renowned DJs and tastemakers like Rainer Tru by (Compost, DE), Robert Luis (Tru Thoughts, UK), and Mark Farina (OM Records, US). 

His latest EP Take Care My Friend (NuNorthern Soul, UK / 2022) was enthusiastically received by the scene. For the remix EP (NuNorthern Soul, UK / 2023), he brought on board renowned producers such as Atjazz and Moods.

In his "feel-good" DJ sets, he effortlessly blends various styles, ranging from downbeat to house with elements of disco, boogie, jazz and funk. Since 2024, Flashbaxx has been performing again as an electronic live act, showcasing his unique mash-ups of disco and house classics. His high-energy performances have already taken him to legendary clubs like the KitKat Club and Heideglühen in Berlin. In June 2025 selected tracks from his live set will be released as “Gazelle” EP on the newly founded label Groovers Trax (Leipzig), fulfilling his longheld dream of creating an uncompromising house record with a disco twist. 

From 2016 to 2025, Stenger was part of the podcast Proseccolaune, where he further honed his comedic talent. Today, this is reflected in his own comedy and music content on social media, striking a balance between accessible entertainment and subcultural authenticity—earning him a steadily growing fanbase.
Daniel Stenger lives in Aschaffenburg (DE), works in his studio where he produces music, podcasts, content and musical projects for the advertising industry. His musical expertise has made him a sought-after collaborator. Prestigious companies—including RTL, BERTELSMANN, GARNIER, PANTENE, OLAZ, MERCEDES BENZ, PHANTASIALAND, AIRBUS, and VERIVIOX—regularly Stenger for their brand’s music production.
