On its’ release in November 2022, Daniel Stenger’s debut mini-album as Flashbaxx, Take Care My Friend, won plenty of plaudits for its’ enticing blend of jazz-funk instrumentation, audible warmth, effortless musicality, and memorable, sun-soaked songs. Now the set returns in remixed and reworked form, with a sextet of artists taking it in turns to put a new spin on the German producer’s carefully crafted and immaculately executed tracks.

The six-cut vinyl version boasts two revisions that have already made waves on digital download: a genuinely life-affirming hip-hop-soul take on ‘Strangers’ courtesy of East Midlands’ maestro Atjazz, where Katherine Kempf’s smouldering lead vocals rise above head-nodding beats, woozy electric piano chords, yearning horn arrangements and smooth bass guitar, and a sublime Moods mix of ‘Love Boat’ that re-frames the track as a languid, groove-fired shuffle through Balearic jazz-funk territory.

The other four reworks, which are exclusive to this EP, are similarly inspired. Chris Pookah collaboration ‘City Lights’ is given the remix treatment not once, but twice. First NuNorthern Soul regulars Mike Salta and Mortale re-imagine the track as a gently breezy, dusk-ready blend of bouncy, samba-influenced grooves and colourful Balearic nu-disco, before BJ Smith – the first artist to release music on Phil Cooper’s imprint way back in 2012 – takes the track into semi-acoustic, blue-eyed-soul-meets-Balearic jazz-funk territory. Gentle, tactile and vibrant, it’s a stunning, soul-stirring revision.

To round off the EP, two producers renowned for creating atmospheric, sunrise-ready soundscapes deliver their versions of Stenger’s kaleidoscopic, musically rich aural visions. Marshall Watson handles ‘Alright’, smothering a languid, slow-motion drum machine beat in jazzy double bass, delay-laden electric piano motifs, lazy jazz guitars, rising synth strings and the dreamiest of pads. 

Then, to round things off in considerable style, Tambores En Benirras reworks title track ‘Take Care My Friend’, teasing out the track’s inherent musical colour and warmth whilst adding his own distinctive spin. Pleasingly hard to pigeonhole, his remix makes extensive use of deep, dubby bass, Latin-style percussion, leisurely beats, blossoming synth sounds and all manner of effects-laden instrumental flourishes – including guitar solos that recall some of Dave Gilmour’s most laidback, eyes-closed moments. It provides a genuinely brilliant conclusion to an effortlessly impressive set of remixes.

live act, showcasing his unique mash-ups of disco and house classics. His high-energy performances have already taken him to legendary clubs like the KitKat Club in Berlin. In June 2025 selected tracks from his live set will be released as “Gazelle” EP on the newly founded label Groovers Trax (Leipzig), fulfilling his longheld dream of creating an uncompromising house record with a disco twist. 

From 2016 to 2025, Stenger was part of the podcast Proseccolaune, where he further honed his comedic talent. Today, this is reflected in his own comedy and music content on social media, striking a balance between accessible entertainment and subcultural authenticity—earning him a steadily growing fanbase.

Ich hatte die Ehre mein neues Live-Set in Innsbruck auf dem Bogenfest spielen zu dürfen – und das vor einer absolut traumhaften Kulisse! Trotz des frühen Slots hat sich der Platz bis zum Ende meiner Performance richtig gut gefüllt und es war mir ein Vergnügen, neue Sounds und Edits zu testen und die Energie mit euch zu teilen.

Ein großes Dankeschön geht auch an die Orga für die Einladung und die top technische Betreuung. Und vor allem an meine Crew, ohne die diese Aufzeichnung nicht möglich gewesen wäre. 

I had the honor of performing my new live set in Innsbruck at the Bogenfest – all in front of an absolutely stunning backdrop! Despite the early slot, the square filled up nicely by the end of my performance, and it was a real pleasure to test out new sounds and edits and share the energy with all of you.

Since being discovered by the Mainz-based lounge label “Wohnton” in 2003, Flashbaxx’s jazz and funky beats have been featured on international compilations including releases on Sony Music, EMI, and Ministry of Sound. His productions appear alongside artists such as Moby, Jazzanova, Blank & Jones, Die Fantastischen Vier and Bonobo and are regularly played by renowned DJs and tastemakers like Rainer Trüby (Compost, DE), Robert Luis (Tru Thoughts, UK), and Mark Farina (OM Records, US).
His latest EP Take Care My Friend (NuNorthern Soul, UK / 2022) was enthusiastically received by the scene. For the remix EP (NuNorthern Soul, UK / 2023), he brought on board renowned producers such as Atjazz and Moods.
In his "feel-good" DJ sets, he effortlessly blends various styles, ranging from downbeat to house with elements of disco, boogie, jazz and funk. Since 2024, Flashbaxx has been performing again as an electronic live act, showcasing his unique mash-ups of disco and house classics. Klaus Benedek grew up in a small town near Vienna. His interest in electronic music began during the 90s techno hype. He spent hours watching video clips on MTV and viva and thus gaining knowledge about electronic music. In 2004, he began teaching himself to produce. Gathering his inspiration wherever he could, he began collecting 12" vinyl records the same year and 2 years later got his first dj-gigs. From 2008 till 2010 he was one of the resident DJs at the MNML Thursdays in the Camera Club. In 2012 he started with Alex Kolodziej the event-series Tellerbetrieb. Currently he finds most of his inspiration in Chicago House, Deep House, Disco and Breakbeat. After releases on labels like Petrol Dollar, Subversaal, rekooda, Soul Shift Music, Clean and Dirty Recordings and tanzbar, Klaus launched his own label forTunea in 2014.
