🌟🌟🌟Historical🌟🌟🌟

Gianluigi “Gigi” Farina and Francesco Rago are to be counted among Italo disco’s true originators. Operating as a duo under many monikers, they brought us masterpieces such as Wanexa’s “The Man From Colours”, ‘Lectric Workers’ “Robot Is Systematic”, and Decadance’s “On And On”. Their sound is propulsive and ethereal in equal measure – dense, psychedelic, and tinged with melancholy. “The Man From Colours” was recorded in Milan in 1982 and released on Discomagic Records the same year. The song’s music was composed by Rago and Farina, with lyrics written by Xenia Monneret who was only 16 at the time. Mournful synth pads are buoyed by an 808 groove, while Lyana Galis provides haunting vocals, singing of a man who will bring color to this grey world. “The Man From Colours” was influential on early House and Techno music thanks to support from WBMX in Chicago and and WJLB in Detroit.

Tucked away on their 2012 debut EP on Fake Music Media, “Ethereal” burst Nova Heart onto the Beijingindie scene with their brand of glittery, effervescent synthpop. 

The CD only release did not see muchdistribution outside of China and now appears for the first time on vinyl care of Alliance Upholsterywith an impressive collection of remixes.

Rodion (Slow Motion Records, Gomma) stretches out the original version for an almost 7 minute slowburn. It builds and teases out his original mix for a more dancefloor friendly workout.

Ivan Berko (Love on the Rocks, Sonic Dream Recordings) transforms the song into a peak time housestomper that wouldn’t have been out of place at Sound Factory. Both nostalgic and fresh, this is one forthe ravers.

Magic Words (Razor-N-Tape) deliver an electronica-tinged belter of a house mix. If you had gatedbackward vocals on your bingo card, you can now check it off.

Rounding things out is the debut production by supergroup, Italomatic (Facets, Andi and Rok One).Brooklyn’s wildest italo party steps out from behind the decks and into the studio for a straight linedrive remix incorporating elements of italo, new beat and EBM.

Rich in melody and instantly classic in feel, Luca dell’Orso debuts on CWPT with a mini-album of lush Italo, sensitively summoned from the Netherlands. Having impressed with previous releases on labels including Bordello A Parigi and Red Laser Records, this longer player demonstrates a delicate approach to his studio, flitting between pop songwriting and analog experimentation.

From the soft fanfare that announces ‘Solitair & Solidair,’ ‘Actors’ establishes a confident groove that gently pushes an Alfa Romeo pedal toward Balearic ecstasy. On the instantaneous lead single ‘Dear Rosie,’ dell’Orso blends the signature palette of the vintage Yamaha DX7 synthesizer with longing vocals from collaborator Jolisa. A paean to a special person from a distant past, ‘Dear Rosie’ is blessed with a wistful melody befitting a classic Eric Rohmer film, a musical postcard of a treasured connection. From wistful midsummer memories, dell’Orso easily transports listeners to another season entirely with ‘Winter Scent’, a deep meditation reflecting the artist’s walks in the few hours of available sunlight, thoughts beautifully vocoded beneath a heavy sonic layer.

Out of this lavish gloom blossoms the inevitable sound of spring on the driving, optimistic ‘Love by Association’; an enduring recipe of distinct drums and pitch-shifting synthesis, frozen in time for frenetic Eurodisco dancefloors. On ‘Propaganda’, dell’Orso offers a more forceful take on the same instincts, skipping inner-Schengen borders to simmer via industrially-tinted pleasures as revealed in Dusseldorf, 1984. For a sublime finale, ‘This Time (Things Will Be Different)’ takes to the piano, where Luca dell’Orso finds space to demonstrate the elegant minimalism that easily coexists alongside his timeless energy.

Love On The Rocks is back with our first record of the year – a remix of a obscure psychedelic proto-trance cut from ’93, remastered, reissued and remixed for the future by @roza-terenzi and @alexkassian.

‘State Of Mind’ was first released on Rhythm Design in 1993, then remixed in ’94 by @justin-drake and @o-s-m / Quinn Whalley, AKA Slack, who released their first 12” on @andrew-weatherall’s Sabres of Paradise label and years later would go on to found seminal dance music acts @peacedivision & @paranoid-london.

But not before leaving a trail of fire 12”s and remixes behind them, which they found time to do between running around London, DJing, throwing parties and pulling all nighters in the studio. This, in our view, is the key to it all - equal parts tribal, trance and techno, built around a pulverising kick drum, with synths direct from outer space, incomprehensible computerised vocals seemingly delivered through vocoder, rewinds, and breakdowns galore; it sounds like a transmission from an alien race, relentless and insane.

Roza Terenzi brings typical A-game to her mix, taking down the tempo but amping up the weird, loosely following the original’s structure of build ups and strip downs while lacing its tribal/extra-terrestrial vibes with additional jungle sounds and atmospheric pads, for what feels like a morning stroll through a psychedelic rainforest.

Alex Kassian takes no prisoners with his extended update/workout complete with booming vocal samples, planet-destroying bass and layers of pin- sharp, slamming percussion that smartly echoes the original and retools it for ‘21.

The vinyl comes in a full sleeve with special artwork, inlay with notes from Justin Drake & an exclusive download code.

Flemming Dalum, also know as King of the cut, discovered his musical journey at an early age. An interest based out of curiosity for electronic synthesizer legends emerging while he grew up. With his first synth, the Korg Polysix, a lifelong passion was born. He started playing in bands in 1982, experimenting with electronics and the new world of sounds and possibilities. At the same time he started experimenting with records and discovered a natural talent for mixing and blending synths with records, creating his own unique world of sound. In mind that the CD wasn't invented, neither was the HD recorder, the heart in Flemmings set-up was a simple cassette recorder. An invention that should soon add yet another angle to his musical universe. With snappy skills and imagination, the cassette soon became his most important instrument taking him to the next level. The world of mixing. With sampler, echomachine, decks, synths and a beloved cassette recorder, the first true mixes came out of his studio already in 1983. Mixes with so much detail, soon giving him the legendary name "King of the cut". In the same year, 1983, Flemming stumbled across Koto "Chinese Revenge", a discovery that should soon lead Flemming into a brave new world matching his own, with synths and electronics being the heart of the music. The passion became strong and shortly after the Koto discovery, brought him to his first trip to Milan, Il Discotto, Discomagic, Non-Stop, Merak etc. to investigate the Italo phenomenon in detail. The following years Flemming visited the Italian distributors 11 times which later proves to be one of the major reasons to the fact that he has one of the worlds most complete collections of Italo and Disco. Through the years, the synths has been replaced with computers and equipment matching the urge for mixing. Something that has kept the true Italo spirit alive and made Flemming Dalum a legend in mixing today.
