And you're searching for a metaphor, a way to explain
Life’s love and friendships, all of the pain
As literal ideas, keep drifting by
Only a few words linger, asking you, why

As the story of your Journey, slowly unfolds
The pages ahead, grow fewer and old
Each line you've written, a person you’ve met
A soul you’ve touched, a mark you’ve, left

Some will remember, only your grace,
Others the damage, you left in your place
Maybe they smiled, at your laughter and your jokes
Or perhaps they mask the scares, your flaws provoked

It’s a kaleidoscope a shifting scene
Footnotes you’ve never seen

You're in a thousand novels
Each line a piece of you
With chapters lost to time
Only you know the truth
Only you know what’s you

Whether part of a sentence, a paragraph a verse
You ask yourself repeatedly, why does it hurt
A hero to some, the villain to others
In countless tales, with forgotten lovers

Trying to guess the ending, when our last words are known
A few lines in an epilogue, to mark what you condone
You sacrificed hearts, your motives unclear
Shame now residing, where pride once appeared

Does it hurt because you never cried
Or because you never even tried

You're in a thousand novels
Each line a piece of you

Only you know what’s you

As faded recollections, keep drifting by
Only a few words linger, asking you why
Life is beautiful, but owes you no presence
It’s fragile it’s fleeting, and pain is its, essence
