I began writing this song about a year ago. At the time I was recently laid off from my job due to COVID-19 and was basking in the extra free time for myself and my family. One warm spring day I took my laptop, headphones and Ableton Push to my backyard and began chopping and manipulating samples during my son Ezra's nap time. This moment is what laid the groundwork for this song. Fast-forward a year: selling our home of 5 years, moving to a new city, finding our dream house and making it our home, starting a new job, growing our little family and all the other things in-between, and now I'm happy to present the first song I've completed in 2 years... New Beginnings. It took me a while to come up with the title, but if you've made it this far into my ramblings you will see just how fitting it is. I'm excited for all of the new beginnings and experiences this crazy life brings us and hope to continue being inspired, bringing more sound to your ears in the near future. So I just HAD to do this Capital Kings remix, because I love Capital Kings so much, and this song was just TOO GOOD of material to pass up. Although I would have liked to see the winning remix to be officially released (Gotee Records??? hint hint)...So here is my remix. I spent a lot of time working on it, and it's not as good as it could have been if my computer could actually handle my song project (I need a new computer or an upgrade or something)...I had to keep exporting it, then going back in and tweaking it. It was hard and tedious, but I'm pretty happy with the outcome. ENJOY, and may the best remix win!! :) And may God be glorified in it all!

So on this last Capital Kings remix, I was like....hey, I don't really want to just make another remix just the same as I did for the first two rounds. And so I decided to ask eXecutive Decision (soundcloud link below) to collaborate on the remix with me! We both contributed to this, so I can't take credit for all of those amazing dubstep basses you hear--only some of 'em. Anyway, we actually whipped this up pretty quick, so I'm about as surprised as anyone else that it actually sounds good. :) Thanks a bunch, and enjoy!!!

The intended contemplation of “Idols” is to be on how we allow God’s blessings to become idols in our lives. As a musician it’s very easy to get lost in the process of writing a song and become distracted from what our true intention is. For me that intention is giving you a chance to experience the Holy Spirit through sound, offering a time and a head-space to be deliberate about seeking God and what he has for you. This first single “Idols” is my own personal reminder to never let this gift of music become an idol in my life, but instead return this gift in worship to God. I also want it to allow you to take a moment and see the things God has blessed you with. Have you allowed these blessing to become an idol in your life? A distraction from the God who gave them to you? Or are you using these blessings to return the gift to God through worship and praise? Take this time to be present with God and seek the peace and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

My super deep remix of Narrow Skies track "Chasing the Sun" out now on their 'Seasons Remixed - EP'. This track is probably my favorite I've written to date. I did a ton of experimentation in Ableton and dug deep into some sound design as well as the original stems to bring you this creation.
