Happy new year! Float Records starts off 2016 with a brand new podcast series. Our Float Records artists will take care of it, always delivering fresh music on the 1st of every month. This way we try to present you the specific sound of techno we believe in.

Who else then TWR72 can kick of this podcast series. As imprint bosses they decide the musical direction of the label. With this mix they show their taste in music with a wide range of tracks where in the end the groove is essential.

For us, Nørbak is one of 'those' hidden gems... You know, when you’ve dedicated endless hours to treasure hunting and suddenly find your attention fully consumed as a track catches your ear, igniting something in your soul and proceeding to give you that ‘kid in a sweet shop’ kinda feeling! Yup, you’re with us now. Nørbak’s four-track EP, Conduction, released on Circular Limited in April 2017 and one of five EPs under his belt (also reaching Spieth’s Affin & Illegal Alien Records) was our first chance encounter with this intriguing Portuguese artist. With production fuelling the fire in his belly for the large majority of his life and his outputs doing what we like best – seductively minimal, deep, emotion and thought provoking - we couldn’t help but humour our intrigue and see if we could find out how his creative yearning is translated across to a mix. Fortunately for us, he was more than happy to oblige.

Guest Mix 110: Nørbak

Stanislav Tolkachev has been turning out experimental techno for more than a decade but might never have been as prolific as he is now. Hot on the heels of an EP on Raw Waxes that brimmed with dark IDM invention, this month sees him serve up his fourth full length, It Will Be Too Late Then. It finds the Ukrainian serving up controlled machine made chaos, cavernous grooves and his trademark arpeggios across nine forward thinking tracks. 

All this and more is showcased on his podcast for us. Tolkachev’s compulsive rhythms are the foundation for what is an end of days soundtrack that takes you from the heat of a percussive battle to a charred and desolate landscape. It’s cinematic music rich in texture, blistering drums and sharp melodies that is beautiful in its brutality.

Label boss Pfirter returns to the MindTrip Podcast with a very special mix. Episode 32 features a continuous mix of 11 tracks taken from Pfirter’s new album The Empty Space. In Juan Pablo’s words - The biggest magic of making music is what i call "the empty space", which is not a place but a state of mind. A state of focus and attention purely into music and creation, which can relate a lot to meditation in a way, and works together nicely. I've mainly worked during nights on this project, in order to create a more isolated environment which allowed a good flow and no distractions. I decided to name the album "the empty space" not only because of this "creative state of mind" or whatever you want to call it, but also as a reminder to myself of how important it is to accept and embrace this moment, and to try to live in this state for as long as possible. It's not just about music creation but about life as a whole. - 'The Empty Space' throbs with a vital pulse that acutely transcends all categories and genres, and once again Pfirter adroitly recombines techno's DNA into something truly and definitely his own. Hioll has become one of the main influences within the rising Cuban electronic music scene. Respected and admired not only in his homeland of Cuba, but among the entire techno community of the world.

Established Abstraction in 2017, the first electronic music label ever in Cuba’s history and which is dedicated to showing the most outstanding talents from the island. But that has subsequently evolved to welcome new international artists and, as such, become a widely supported source of dance-floor cuts.

As a producer, Hioll's tracks exist in a powerful aesthetic crossroads, which looks simultaneously from the most daring and strange hypnotic Techno to the most bizarre and Industrial. He has many successful releases in respected and well known labels like Flash Recordings, Bipolar Disorder Records, Drvms Ltd, Suara or his own labels, Abstraction and Hioll. Being played and supported by big industry names such as Dax J, Paula Temple, I Hate Models or Keith Carnal, just to name a few.

This suggests a versatile artist with a strong personality, capable of generating rich and truly unique ideas and, eventually, translating them into a varied context of unprecedented sound experiences.

Massa gives name to a project that explores the deep side of the sound, melting it with a background influenced by the local electronic music from the late 90's. That's how he became involved with Techno and, in 2016, he founded Hidden Traffic, a platform he uses to develop his sound and to showcase some of the artists he felt inspired by. He also released on Informa Records and Affin among others.

Our June episode features an exclusive deep hypnotic techno mix from Brooklyn resident, Kiosk Man. 

With a background in playing music in dive bars for fun, Kiosk Man found his love for techno after a trip to Europe in 2015. A Brooklyn resident, he now plays sets in NYC and beyond with carefully crafted selections that draw the listener towards an engaging and sometimes melancholic dance floor peak. The energy and percussive grooves can be felt in every set and is not to be missed. 

Taking inspiration from greats such as Rodhad, Cleric, Stef Mendesidis, Yan Cook, Marla Singer, Charles Fenckler and many more, his sets create a sense of atmospheric urgency with futuristic tones and driving kick patterns. A clear fan of traditional European techno, he brings his flavor to dance floors all over Brooklyn and beyond.

In 2018 he founded Regression - a party series and podcast series to help showcase Brooklyn's underground dance music artists. The series has been successful bringing Kiosk Man and his curations to the decks across Brooklyn. Regression looks forward to launching its first 12" EP and continuing to be a driving force in darker, warehouse-style party organization of underground artists in NYC.

We present to you Duplicity Podcast Episode 007 featuring Juan Campos. Juan Campos was born in the mid-eighties in the south of Spain. His interest in electronic music arose at the age of twelve when he saw a friend’s father’s recording studio. The faders, knobs, lights, and spinning vinyls seemed to have a life of their own. It didn’t take long for Juan to familiarize himself with turntables – his preadolescence was spent discovering tracks and styles of music while finding his preferred techniques as a DJ.

He entered the local electronic scene when he was 18 and has been playing ever since. His sets in constant evolution span several branches of techno, from hypnotic and mental, to modular techno, their mixtures are characterized by long progressions and perfect harmonic unions.

Most of his time nowadays is put into the production of his own tracks. At present, Juan already has productions on several labels located throughout Europe, including Substratum, Aesir Records, hidden Suite Records,Mephyst or Dreizehn Schallplatten among others.
