Dic Penderyn

Moussa Kouyate is the Bristol Griot translating an ancient kora playing and story telling West African tradition to the streets of Bristol. Falling ill this year he spent some days in hospital. This is a tribute based on words he spoke to trumpeter storyteller David Mowat from our new album The Bristol Griot (available soon). In the band are the BEJE rhythm section Federico Leonori on bass, Paolo Adamo drums, with Emmy Broughton concert harp and Suntou Susso on djembe. Please tell us what you think!

I missed out recording in the early morning as it was a bit to breezy to record, it was very overcast and even a few spots of rain could be felt.  However before breakfast I noticed that in the barn the Swallows were really singing well, so I got the gear out and had a go. In the barn it was not as breezy as outside, so you could say that it made up for earlier.  
Recorded in the barn next to the Nature School in the little village of Palupohja in the Alam Pedja reserve Estonia at 7.17am on the 18th of May2017.  
Equipment; A pair of Sennheiser MKH8020 microphones, a Sound Devices MixPre microphone pre-amp and a Marantz PMD661 solid state recorder.  Recording 3018.

Dawn Chorus with Robin and Chiffchaff in song.   5th of May 2017 beginning at 5.32am at the edge of the Old Pine Wood.	  6m30.	A good range of other species sing in the distance.  It was a really cold morning and on the way back, in the final few hundred meters I really felt the cold.  It felt much more cold than the figure of -1°C would suggest it should have been.
Species; Robin, Chiffchaff, Common Crane, Cuckoo, Gray Necked Woodpecker, Blackbird, Dunnock, Great Tit, Wood Pigeon, Rooks, Tree Pipit and Songthrush.  
Recording 2971.

Borneo Rainforest - Evening - Dusk Chorus With Shama

Graham Dunning explores the world as a giant record player in his new tape Something About Still Trying. Well known as a turntable experimentalist  Dunning brings this sensibility to field recording in this album which sees him building a giant stylus out of a stick for A Tracing of a Single Tide, re-configuring a windmill as a huge turntable in Windchange, and finding a recording which sounds like a scratch loop to compose the opening title track.
Something About Still Trying is out January 30 on cassette.
