Enjoy the first 19 minutes of a great start into a 4hrs long house music set I played in Berlin on July 16th for the @smallgreatthings Labelnight. We will never hear the full set again, but let me tell you: it was perfect.

The piece "gelb" ("yellow") is the fifth part of my colour-series, which explores the cultural connotations and associations with different colours.

Dieses Stück ist aus einer Zusammenarbeit mit der Wiener Malerin Martina Steckholzer heraus entstanden. Im Februar 2020 durfte ich zur Vernissage ihrer Bilderserie À Lent, die von der Kuratorin Karin Pernegger im Raum verteilt angeordnet waren, am Klavier improvisieren. Während diesem Kennenlernen entstand die Idee einer Komposition für Violoncello und Akkordeon zu den gleichen Bildern. 

Bereits bei der Improvisation am Klavier wurde der Kontrast zwischen Malerei und Musik deutlich. Während die Malerei quasi statisch ist und unabhängig von der Zeit agiert, ist Musik immer an die Zeit gebunden und existiert nur mit und in dieser. Beim Komponieren des Stückes in Bezugnahme auf die Arbeiten Martina Steckholzers, habe ich versucht einen zeitdehnenden Raum zu schaffen.

Die Exploration der verschiedenen Möglichkeiten von Linien in ihrer Textur, Dichte, Färbung und Intensität war für mich Ausgangspunkt dieses Stücks. Durchgängige, gestrichelte, abreißende Linien, gerade oder wellenförmige Linien, konstant bleibende oder sich verändernde Linien… oder Fäden, die ein Geflecht ergeben und mitunter so dicht werden können, dass die Wahrnehmung sie als blockartige Einheit mehr als denn als Einzelgestalten wahrnimmt.
