Another week gone, and I barely remember it. Looking at my calendar, it was quite a busy week. But it does not feel like it. Strange. However, when my calendar says so, there can only be one choice in music... err... which is either ambient or dance-ish. Ok, well, last week it was all about relaxation, this week we will treat the body with some beats. Which is very fitting, as I just compiled a track list that fits my requirements. How accidental. Oh, and then there is a live festival coming up in Fulda, Germany. If you are interested and can make it, simply go for a trip. It's several days the week from September 10th. Take your pick. "Now is a time of change. From the evolution of my label Bassic Records into Stone Seed, right through to the intensities of global current affairs and so much in between. My 333 mix is a marker of this change, of growth, but also a reminder to make sure one takes the time to feel what it really means to be human.

Creating this journey has in itself, been such an incredible journey. Fulfilling the 333 mix for Flow Music allowed me to dig deep into my collection and present angles of my sound that more rarely see the sunlight, but resonate with me so deeply. The canvas of 3 hours and 35 minutes allowed me to express energies of euphoric electronica, through deep progressive techno, psychedelic prog-house and an extensive emotive spectrum of electronic music.

Flow Music has been showing immense support to the Australian and global music communities since early 2020, intertwining our island region with the rest of the world. I'm grateful for their work and to have been given the opportunity to showcase my craft with them.

We're thrilled to welcome back tune aficionado and beatsmith J-Slyde with another brilliant mix... this time it's a live recording from his set on Chill Island @ Esoteric 2023...

Here's what he had to say about the set...

"I find chill sets the most un-chill set to plan for. I always begin with lofty aspirations, amassing a huge bucket of music that travels through BPM, genre and style, with the idea that it will all somehow come together on game day.

As I began work on piecing together this set, I was reminded that they never just "come together".

But that's a big part of why they end up being so special.

Then being offered a platform as beautiful as Esoteric's Chill Island to play such a set, further helping to make things that much sweeter.

It also played part of a 4-hour breathe. showcase, with Simon on beforehand. Big thanks to him for trusting me with such an honour!

The mix is loosely split into 3 chapters which cover lo-fi house, trip-hop, hip-hop, electronica, progressive breaks, lots of weird beats & breaks, some garage, a cheeky slathering of dnb and an amen break for good measure. All as cohesively as I could mix them together.

Erik Davis stands tall at the intersection between mysticism, technology, and counterculture. He's one of my favorite writers, the author of many stupendous books, among them "TechGnosis: Myth, Magic, and Mysticism in the Age of Information," "Nomad Codes," as well as "High Weirdness" a highly entertaining book that explores 1970s counterculture and its relationship with altered states of consciousness. Erik is also an Esalen faculty member, having recently taught a course on Embodied Writing and Spiritual Practice. In this conversation, we went into his new book, "Blotter," an extended meditation on LSD blotter art and the culture that surrounds it. We also found time to veer off into a host of topics, including Terence McKenna, John C. Lilly, Dick Price, madness, Stan Grof, the spiritual emergency network, prep-school deadheads, the Village Voice, the Internet and Erik's theory that it kills subcultures, the phenomenon of what Erik calls "cannabis thinking," how he was never much of a "cannabis writer," tape machines and their place in the counterculture, the Merry Pranksters, Phillip K.
