Hello and welcome to the 23rd episode of the Karismatik Podkast! Our guest this week is @bentovmusic, who’s originally from Israel and now living and loving life in Cape Town, South Africa. Not one to pigeonhole himself into one style, Ben Tov traverses the BPMs and moods, and focuses on telling a story through progression in his melodic productions. He spends much of his time locked away in his studio, carving out his deep signature analog synth-lines and grooves. With a slew of releases already under his belt, and constant releases on labels such as Katz and Kautz and Deeplomatic. His latest track was released on Harabe Recordings’ Nightmares II, which was compiled by Elif and climbed the Beatport charts.

The Karismatik Podkast 50 - SEIUN

DJ, producer, and label manager, @jameskameran is originally from the UK and currently living the island life on Ibiza. He has played at all of Ibiza’s leading venues, including residencies at Space and Privilege as well as playing at the iconic venues such as Pacha and Hi. He also plays regularly for Ibiza Global Radio, Ibiza Sonica and Pure Ibiza Radio. 

His sets feature different styles of house music, from downtempo through to deep melodic techno. 

In 2010 James launched Rogue Recordings, which received support from some of the planets finest DJs, including Marco Carola and Laurent Garnier. In 2020 Karma Vida Recs was launched, which showcases a more deep, nomadic style of Organic and Afro House. 
Along with this new label project, James’ new artistic alter ego was born, with name ‘Kamran’.

How many of us look at the time and it is always 22:22 or 11:11 and so on? For some people, it doesn’t mean anything and they call it a simple coincidence, but for others like me, or other ‘Flow-ers' it means that you are at the right place, merging with the flow of life or that someone is thinking of you! I locked myself up for this 3:33:33.33.33 sets (yes it’s all about details)standing in front of my CDs, and CDJs, and started recording this set. It all started with a joint and ended up in a disco-ish party passing through some weird, joyful and acid-ish flows. This set is a good representation of what I love to play depending on the gigs. A wide range of carefully selected music and a lot of upcoming tracks, collabs, edits and remixes produced over these last two crazy years! For my upcoming Australian debut, this 03:hr:33min long audio journey gave me the opportunity to play with energetic dancefloor music, progressive elements, melodic vocal tracks, and leftfield indie vibes, and of course a few tracks accompanied with electric violin to describe the musical story. If you were to ask, DADADISCO wouldn't name a single specific source of their inspiration. These two French gourmands take in and digest pretty much everything, from hard rock and heavy metal to synthetics and ambience... That means you can expect anything from Denis and Guillaume but cliché. Design, art, cinema and fashion are just as important to them as music. And it all comes through in their sets. These gents are very much the products of the "promiscuous and omnivorous" disco mayhem, forever imprinted in the collective memory of club culture as Bar25. It was through this jolly demonic mill, fumes and flames, thick and thin, that this combo blazed their way onto Berlin's raucous music scene. Veritable performers, their epic endless sets were somewhat of a cross between music and circus. When it closed for good, DADADISCO went global, spreading their retro-futuristic sound along with their overtly surrealist attitude. "Dada" in their name refers, of course, to a movement that in the mid-20th century famously repudiated and mocked all sorts of artistic conventions while emphasizing the illogical and absurd. DADADISCO keeps experimenting with genres and influences to discover and deliver their own unique blend of sexy electronica, always favouring spontaneity over etiquette. The name sticks on all of these counts.

Normally, podcasts are easy to do and being motivated, one goes to work in exciting anticipation to let the latest delicacies and accumulated "podcast records" shine.
At 3hrs 33min though, the situation is different. We rummaged deep in the record crate, full of enthusiasm knowing exactly what was being played. GORO is a Netherlands-based DJ and Producer. His music is influenced by ethnic and mystic elements combined with meditative melodic tunes. Through hypnotic grooves and minimal colorful effects, Goro aspires to transmit the same feelings of love, unity, and freedom to his audience.

Lev Tatarov draws inspiration from various styles to create organic and deep music. His sound is very heavily percussive and melodic, going across a variety of genres.
For Lev, electronic music is a revolution - not just in the sound - but the whole paradigm of what music can be and what can be music. The encounter with synthesizers, samplers and the digital audio workstation changed his life and the way he views being an artist. He had a long time to develop his sound and his creations live in the spectrum between stellar up beat and laid-back downtempo organic beats. Inspirations come from everywhere, from 80’s synth pop and metal, through indie rock and world music, all the way to psytrance and and a variety of electronic sound spectrums.

V-Dat - Mojito Summer Mix 2023

To be very honest, we (@goro-music and @lev-tatarov, hi 😊) usually don't really like recording mixes at home. We feel that it misses some of the high stakes energy that playing in front of a live crowd brings into a set. There are also very unexpected turns that a flow can take when you throw a lively dancefloor into the mix and this is what we wanted to add to this one. 

 A few months ago, we were invited to play at a beautiful campsite on one of the warmest summer weekends of this year. This is a mixed crowd (young families, older couples, friend groups, you name it...), most of which do not know us, and we did not know where the direction of this will go so we came prepared for anything. We decided on a simple rule to guide us - anything goes and just have fun.. And fun we had! What was supposed to be a tame camping set turned into an all-nighter with the owner of the camping urging us at 5AM to "just play one more". 

 This set goes over a variety of sounds and BPMs.. some that we often play nowadays and some that are more in our past but all a part of our musical journeys as DJs and friends since we met 5 years ago. Percussive grooves, deep atmospheres and driving energy. We hope you enjoy!
