For the next edition of Unrush, Berlin-based electronic musician and cellist Chloe Lula presents a mix that brings together her background in classical music and her work in electronic sound. Layering her own cello recordings over a selection of ambient pieces, she explores the tension between structure and spontaneity - between the past and the present.

Chloe studied cello at the San Francisco Conservatory before stepping away from the strict world of classical training. Immersing herself in community radio, experimental music, and techno, she went on to tour internationally as a DJ and producer. Her return to the cello was intuitive. A way to bridge memory and sound, much like her recent LP Oneiris.

As a resident at Tresor, with releases on Tresor Records and a recent EP on Blueprint, Chloe moves fluidly between club-driven intensity and introspective soundscapes. This mix reflects the latter: a space where layers unfold, textures blur, and time slows down…

I'm really excited to bring you this remix album - I was lucky to get many of my favourite producers in the world involved in the project, and they have delivered an amazing range of music, it's a bit silly actually, how good this release is!

I was originally planning to separate it out into several releases, but when I brought all the remixes together I realised it could make an LP of it's own. I tried to order the tracks to provide some flow in this respect, from the beautiful ambience and downtempo sounds of Christian Löffler and Tom Hodge, to Rival Consoles brooding synth epic, into Vessels Aside broken melodic club track, Kimyan Law's beautifully detailed jungle break masterpiece, Patrice Baumel's massive techno remix, Ash Koosha's twisted electronica vision of Kathrin de Boerr, JoeFarr's apocalyptic darkroom disaster, John Tejada's melodic analogue beauties to wind down a little, and Hidden Orchestra's symmetrically structured huge ebb and flow remix of Symmetry to close. So much great work in there, I hope you have time to listen through and enjoy it as much as I do! And massive thanks to Christian, Tom, Ryan, Vessels, Nico, Pat, Ash, Joe, John and Hidden Orchestra for your work on this.
