Premiere: A-Tweed - Dendrobates Tinctorius [Playground Records]

If Guatemala is on the map of the Dark Disco/Indie Dance scene, it is because of the global recognition Fabio Me Llaman Solteiro (SXDNS187) has achieved as a DJ and producer. Now, in order to consolidate even more the importance of the Caribbean country to the high-quality underground music world, Fabio established the project Sonido Moderna, a micro-label and music collective devoted to showcasing the interesting Central American sonority through the release of original pieces and collaborations with international artists.

After the acclaimed debut album, a compilation featuring local heroes Alan Es, Mike Rowave, Mverto Futura, and Fabio himself, plus Martian Superstars Hanzo & Yaman (SXDNS065), ID_UA (SXDNS229), MIJO, Max Jones (SXDNS234), among others, the second episode – “Gentel Decay” EP – brings together Israeli producer Mishell (SXDNS228) and a Latino Dream Team: ALF CHAMPION, Balam (SXDNS048), and Mike Rowave, who provided savoury remixes.

The track we chose to review/premiere brings ALF CHAMPION, an experimental producer, DJ, and visual artist from Guadalajara, Mexico, remodelling and overhauling the already intricate “Lost My Bongo's”. The Shamanic aura of the original is still present in ALF’s version but is now not so evident. The Mexican virtuoso took Mishell’s theme to a more breakbeat and old school rave-ish road whose outcome is a track more embodied and dirtier, ready to wreak havoc on the dance floor. Hats off, lad!

1) You played a lot of songs with Latin-rooted languages (Spanish, Brasilian, French) - is there a "file rouge" to decipher here? 

I love to dig old French, Brazil songs but it's on a « file rouge ». I love them because they are often "guilty pleasures" and easy to dance and sing to.
Old instrumentals are also very good and sometimes fun.

2) We know you as an inspiring digger, and some of us here at Paradisco follow your uploaded gems on a monthly basis - can you tell us a bit more about your digging process?

I’m essentially a web digger because it’s more instantaneous, I appreciate digging in shops, but you can’t always listen to the records there.
Soundcloud & YouTube are gold mines, and you can listen to artist's mixes.
My passion is to discover songs and share them ! Play a track and see people dancing is the best sensation even if i’m not a DJ.
Clubs were re-closed in France, it’s so sad, so eager for better days !

The fnal original carries the lustful name SOMBRIA LUJURIA. It perfectly rounds up the EP of this enchanting collaboration. Enjoy the catchy percussive hits mixed with shamanic jungle sounds and a captivating bassline.
DEKADENZ co-mastermind ADITYA PERMANA delivers a diabolic remix of SOMBRIA LUJURIA. The man from Jakarta gave his dark touch and prepared a strong belly wobbler that catches ones attention with shabby synths, harsh aural bites and demon like vocals.
The second remake comes from BELLY DANCE SERVICES co-head NICK HANZO, who saddled up a remix for LA TUMBA. With it’s groovy attitude, hypnotizing melodies and addictive vocals, this track is perfect for a thorough body work out.

The White Isle`s Residentes Balearicos come bouncing back with a debut EP, Viajes Orgaizado, for Brighton`s Higher Love Recordings. The super prolific Italian duo of Luca Averna and Ale Doretto, who’ve now made Ibiza their home, have perviously released music, across a range of tempos - from serene sunset shuffles to nocturnal, psychedelic, shamanic shakedowns. Gracing labels such as Shades Of Sound, Music For Dreams, Balearic Ensemble, and Takeo Toyama`s Archipelago (RIP). Noteworthy names such as Joe Morris and Robin Lee`s Rudy’s Midnight Machine have remixed the results, while they frequently collaborate with current king of “chillout”, Melodica`s Chris Coco. This fresh four-track outing finds the friends fashioning two new tunes, each given an additional guest “twist”.

D110 starts with a solid rock drum battery, quickly joined by characteristically bionic “balearicos” bass. Ripe with rave-y synth signals, and filled with flickering frequencies, the track taps directly into their Italo disco roots. Its sleazy, suggestive, stomping novo new beat, countered by breakdowns of cute cascading bells and chimes - raining prettily above the punchy, pumping, pounding. Mancunian musician James Bright, himself a Higher Love veteran - as well as working with imprints such as Sveva, Quattro, and Eclectics - smooths out the still banging, gargantuan groove. Manufacturing melody from masked marimba and energetic, particulate, ping-ponging patterns, while making excellent use of echo to build, and release, tension.

Juno’s Dream is technologically tribal. Its robotic rhythm rising and falling hypnotically, while grounded by more “organic” finger clicks. The warm, womb-like, constantly mutating, bottom-end, an homage to both acid house and bleep. Bali-based Liverpudlian Joey Fiztgerald, aka Gold Suite adds trippy gated sequences, and bonus human hand percussion, in the shape of bongos and congas. Then tops this off with huge rushing waves, swirls, of stirring, emotive, synthetic strings.

The 16th release of Belly Dance Services also marks the 4th edition of Various Worldwide, where artists from across the globe join forces for a mini album with 8 tracks.

From Italy with love for a certain musical weirdness: 'Bubble Gum'. A mesmerizing teamwork between A-Tweed and Kakofonico. After starting off steady and percussive, the beats per minute shift up with Cosman from the Lithuanian coast when he delivers his vibrant version of 'Space Disco'. The third track 'No Man Around' is a magnetizing joint venture between AckerMan from Israel and Funboys trio from Australia. The ritualistic cowbell ceremony is followed by 'Blew my Mind', a cheerful downtempo anthem from Vienna based producer Klaus Benedek. The voyage continues via Turkey and Mexico, where Fat&Bald and Ludviq celebrate their 'Age of Trippiness' with us. The 6th track is a new alliance between Belly Dance Services head Nick Hanzo and German-Greek vocalist Geraldine. Together as 'das molekuel' their emotional 'Chasing Game' will swirl up your serotonin level. The molecules continue exploading while listening to 'Unity', a very hip collab between lithuanian sound doctor Bojarchück and Madrid based Chilenian wizard Persona RS. After traveling between various continents the journey finally arrives in the capital auf Austria. 'Cato' by Peter Zack will complete your summer with dreamy elements and dubby vibes.
