The rising & shining Belgian duo Sylphomatic (SXDNS354) debuted on Logia Records not so long ago. Their “Diskotripo” EP, featuring three stunning and fiery-as-hell originals, reached the “shelves” of digital retailers in December last year and is now back presenting this time two remixes made with love by some of the hottest Mexican young talents: Corresponsal & Diskontrol (SXDNS254) and Chinosynth (FREEDL021).

It was also not so long ago that the duo appeared for the first time in the Indie Dance/Dark Disco spectrum: Their “Eyes On Karman” EP, released on the mighty NEIN Records, came with a thumping five-track selection (yes, all originals) and introduced the craft of the Brussels-based artists to the world.

But let’s go back to the present, shall we? Premiered here, the insightful interpretation of “Super High”, brought to life by Corresponsal & Diskontrol, marks the first collaboration between the young Latino producers. In their hands, Sylphomatic’s piece got less distorted but rockier, slightly slower (from 125 to 123 BPM) but more acid. Both focus on the peak time – successfully!

It looked like a normal night under the stars.
In the forest clearing, people were building the stage and setting up the scenery for
midnight's big rave.
Alice came to dance but arrived too early to the party.
While she was sitting outside the camp she saw a funky monkey jumping right in front of
her.
She heard a whisper but wasn't sure, so she started to follow the little monkey.
Out of the blue she fell down, or was she climbing up?
It all ended very quickly and, to her surprise, nothing seemed to changed around her.
On her way back to the camp she started to hear dark, psychedelic electronic music.
Very quietly she could hear a mantra saying “Petit Monde... Petit Monde..”
She was drawn to the intoxicated voices.
As she arrived, she was shocked to find the camp was full of people, all standing still in front
of the DJ booth and humming the mantra.
Slowly she walked inside. People cleared the way for her to pass all the way to the DJ.

Suddenly a strong light appeared and the DJ pointed out at her and shouted-
Danse Alice!!

And the party started.

Curated by rising star Bonnie Spacey (SXDNS337/BLOG010), Critical Monday reaches the 19th chapter of its beautiful journey. Doing the honours, Sylphomatic (SXDNS354) cooked two savoury dance-floor-oriented cuts and invited two of the most established artists of the so-called Indie Dance/Dark Disco scene for the remix duties: none other than the big bosses of Espacio Cielo, Parissior (SXDNS206/FREEDL043/TAKEOVER002/BANDCAMP002/RASTROLIVE009), and Side Up Works, Diego Montiel (SXDNS194).

Hailing from Brussels, the solid Belgian duo, if big beer fans like yours truly, have the chance of holding awesome studio sessions with the company of some delicious lambics from the internationally acclaimed local brewery Cantillon. If not, the studio sessions must be awesome anyway. True music & clubbing lovers, the lads successfully manage to bring together their different influences and individualities to deliver a competent and well-constructed output.

The track we were solicited to review/premiere is not one of the originals, though, but the outstanding version made with love & shadow by master Diego Montiel. Owner of another vital independent label, he makes his debut on Critical featuring an interpretation of the trippy “Wet Ritual” embedded with his characteristic sonority: the trippiness is still there, but with more drive and a punchier attitude, turning the theme into a livelier cut.

After the hallucinate EP "Give Chance A Trance", Moderna and Theus Mago return to Duro with a reissue of their first collaboration work, 'Dog Is Calling You', originally released in 2016 under Chloè’s label, Lumière Noire. The reissue includes the three original cuts and the remix of ‘Dog is calling you’ by Die Wilde Jagd, plus three new remixes by Mexico based artists Mijo & Macaulay, Alinka of Twirl Records, and the Riotvan family Peter Invasion & Gregor Habicht .

The EP begins with the classic "Asesino Sicótico", a booming, dark and insane cut. It's a fusion of techno energy with house music groove. It's followed by "Dog Is Calling You", a slow mix of melted bass, orbital and acidic sounds. To close the original versions is the fan favorite "Papa En Roy", a mixture of classic techno with obsessive and repetitive bass lines, while Moderna's vocals take us on a lunatic journey.

The remix by Mijo & Macaulay of "Asesino Sicótico" is a hypnotic, insistent, and powerful cut. The bass line runs over you while the voice gets lost among synthesizers, pads, and percussion. Alinka surprises us with her version of "Papa En Roy", adding echoes of voices, a liquefying and electrifying bass, distorted percussion, and maniacal synthesizers.

Riotvan friends, Peter Invasion & Gregor Habicht, give us their version of "Papa En Roy", which is a forceful and exciting cut, creating bursts of energy perfect for the dance floor. To close the release is the version made by Die Wilde Jagd, a cut with a reverberated and liberating atmosphere, the drums and bass take you to the climax while the drums hold you firmly in a slow but continuous step.

"Moderna & Theus Mago - Dog Is Calling You" will be available on platforms starting from July 14th.

Belgium Duo Marching Machines joins Roam Recordings with a delightful EP of thoughtful electronic music that, while it can be filed under indie dance/dark disco, has a sound of its own. The title track Alfheim is an anthem born of machines that does the duo’s namesake proud. Heimdal takes the mood into a darker realm with its masterful synth worth over perfectly programmed drum machines. Midgaard keeps it dark with its driving arpeggios underpinning lush pads.
The EP is backed by remixes from Younger Than Me and Mufti. Younger Than Me is up first with an uptempo rave version that brings psychedelic acid to the party. Roam alumni Mufti brings the tempo back down into a groove with a warbly bass leading to a refreshing melody to round out the EP..

“Drumology” – The title track itself is already an invitation for the curious to discover a singular side of Agle. The French artist is indeed known for revisiting 80s synthscapes with his own pen and keeping the genre very well alive, this, both through his own music as well as his newly-established label Rewind It.  

With “Drumology”, the Barcelona-based takes another path in his music production journey by delivering an uptempo 2-track EP, which also features the track “Second City”. It is an exhilarating voyage throughout crowed geographies, as the listener could instantaneously picture her/himself in the Grand Bazar of Istanbul, on a highway crossing Osaka´s skyline or in the heat of a buoyant market in Bombay. The music is intense and original, sleek with a zest of folie: All the ingredients we love at THISBE. 

The EP is completed by remixes by Radial Gaze, and Pyrame: By remixing ”Drumology”, Radial Gaze, a pillar artist of the label, drives the listener into another spiral of beats, adding his own acid and tribal elements “à la Radial Gaze”, while by reworking “Second City”, Pyrame takes a more trancy route to ensure the immersion into Agle´s raging work of art is complete.

Agle - Drumology (Radial Gaze Remix)

“N.B.I.C.” – Nanotechnologies – Biotechnologies – Information Technologies – Cognitive Sciences – after their inaugural release “Endless Sunday” in 2022 via Thisbe, Nomenklatür are back on the label with a bang. Indeed, N.B.I.C. gathers 3 original tracks that perfectly blend the minimalist electro and dark techno genres that characterized the sound of the French duo from Paris. The EP, which also features the singles “Anywhere Out of The World” and “Feier der Gestirne”, depicts a chilling world, where human kind is heading to a permanent connection to the grid, without any interruption. Ever. There is no coming-back from it, no more control on anything…Will we be reaching that stage in the near future?
If you listen closely to the music and are mindful of the feelings and emotions conveyed by it, it might indeed be a plausible scenario. Food for thought, music for thought. The immersion into Nomenklatür´s latest production is real.  
 
The EP is completed by a remix by Bonkers Music´s head Ludviq. The Barcelona-based artist brings in his singular sound by reworking the single “Anywhere Out of The World”, transporting the listener into a more psychedelic and New Beat universe, to the greatest delight of the aficionados of Ludviq´s trademark sound.
