Ulla Records is back with another VA : « Shifted Frequencies ». For our two years anniversary we wanted to treat you with something special, our first physical release, on vinyl !

Now you know our mojo : to explore that 80s inspired, wonky disco sound, in all its shapes and forms ! From Italo to acid, EBM or New Wave, we wanted to showcase some of the multiple facets of the label, our interpretation of these « Shifted Frequencies ». Between France, Italy, UK & Germany, we gathered a fine selection of talented artists, a mix of familiar faces and new encounters.

We’re thrilled to welcome @youngerthanme and @reesuk for the first time on the label, and equally so to have @albertomelloni back with us, alongside label founders @austhermusic and @didiernaranja. All together, they captured some fragments of our shifted frequencies.

Apollon Telefax brings his unique synth craft and vintage drum machines to a new EP on Sinchi Music that features solo cuts, a collaboration with Max Rockid and remixes from Jepe and Tallac.

Apollon Telefax is a deep-digging vinyl enthusiast, collector of music-making hardware, illustrator and lover of science fiction, nature, and surrealism. All of this feeds into his innovative musical output as he blends house, electro, Italo, synth pop and EBM into transcendent trips on labels like Disco Bump, Calypso Records and Epicure Records.

He goes it alone to open up this EP with 'Nineteen', a tough disco cut with cosmic arps and frazzled bass powering the voyage through the stars. Darkened voices are offset by ever-brighter melodies in this most vibrant of tracks. The fantastic 'Shine' is a collaboration with producer, DJ, engineer and Red Bull associate Max Rockid. Max is come Kazan, Tatarstan, he’s the founder of Rockid Sound Machine and has released on labels like Burning Sole and No Hlaf Steppin. This track is defined by a deadpan emo vocal as squirming leads burrow into the night and cold Italo synth sequences dart about the mix over tight drums and bass.

Berlin-based Portuguese talent Jepe serves up two remixes that see him push his sound as he always has before on labels like Diynamic. The first, a 'Nineteen' 303 Retake, is a cacophony of percussion, analogue drums and cowbells underpinned by lively acid lines and a slapping bassline. The second, a 'Shine' Refax, is more expansive, with big chords designed to get hands in the air and elevate a dance floor. Tallac, an American DJ and producer based in Berlin, brings his mix of house, disco and Italo back to this label, having appeared here before. His remix of 'Shine' is an all out explosion of colour and retro-future disco grooves, with steamy vocals providing the finishing touches in style.

This is another characterful EP of left-of-centre sounds from Sinchi Music and as always with this socially minded label, sales profits will be donated to the Sinchi Foundation to support indigenous peoples worldwide.

JGR is that kind of artist who does not stitch without a thread, who knows what they are doing at all times and leaves nothing to the whim of chance, although sometimes their decisions may seem unusual or out of place. And if, in addition, after a consecration in the underground, we see him doing his thing with Pulso Electromagnetico, with the Madrid-based DJ and producer from Burgos: Yahaira, it leaves us even more surprised.
The entire album manages to provide introspection, absorbing energy and twilight light, and that closes a record that knows how to turn musical pulp into a refreshing ambrosia juice. The more the record is listened to, the more difficult it is to locate it in a specific geographical location. His music seems to never solidify, to be a flow of sounds and impressions that never seem to remain fixed in place or memory, until it postulates itself as one of the true values of the future of tame and lustrous electronic music.
This album demonstrates the particular way of understanding the sound of JGR and Yahaira, located at the opposite end of what is commercial, what is generic, what works: what it does is, on the contrary, a kind of unstable magma of pulsations and flashes, of melodic lines and blurred textures, pursuing a serene, spiritual, almost ascetic expression. All those languages and influences from which he drew dialogue on this record, creating new, different and highly evolved sound organisms.
The remix by the duo Panka Panka (xarlee “member of Gameboyz” and Miguel Blanco), gives a twist to the original song, which without losing its essence, manages to give it an unexpected, energetic and very danceable twist, suitable to make dancefloors explode. The idea that drives this album refers us to one of the crucial attributes of music, and it is its inexhaustible capacity to generate moods that protect us at all times. Its meaning remains in the hands of electronic music lovers.

For its third release, French Epicure Records imprint welcomes the Athens based producer, Kay-Chi.

Kay-Chi continues to craft quality tunes while exploring the sounds of Synthwave, Italo and dark disco. He hits the mark once again with an EP that should be played as loud as possible as often as possible!

"Technology 3.0" is the title track of the new EP and projects you in the future instantaneously.
Just hit the Play button and you will find yourself in the middle of an uplifting club-ready tune rich in sparkling synth stabs. The result is a melody-rich, synth-driven beauty, in a late ’80s romance dream.
Second track "Parallel Circuits" is a collaboration between Kay-Chi and his best friend Keymon also from Greece. Celestino (SXDNS009/FREEDL005/FREEDL054) is finally back on Espacio Cielo. After his well-received single “Sehnsucht”, released in 2020, his forthcoming EP on the Spanish powerhouse brings two massive originals, inspired by lucid dreams on Robert Johnson’s and Panorama Bar’s dance floors, and three essential remixes made with love by none other than Bonnie Spacey (SXDNS337/BLOG010), Endrik Schroeder (SXDNS336), and Parissior (SXDNS206/FREEDL043/TAKEOVER002/BANDCAMP002/RASTROLIVE009), the label boss himself. For extra inspiration, the vaults of his influences as SXDNS Soundsystem were opened: read speed and stamina.

Milano's Uabos and Slow Motion Records member Andrea Tempo join forces for a thunderous EP combining their powerful signature sounds. The aptly named 'Blue Tornado' slings this release into action with glistening arpeggios and a captivating, sweeping synth line. Their re-imagining of the infectious sensibilities of 1980's Italo Disco can be heard throughout the release with nods to electro in 'Paura Nera'.
