Having included this track among his favourites of 2016 on the last day of the year Huey Morgan also provided the UK national radio debut on BBC 6 Music followed by a hat trick of spins from Gideon Coe. Kara Manning broadcasted the US radio premiere courtesy of WFUV, New York.

Something Gives is a timely vehicle for the keen eloquence of James Baldwin whose voice, along with that of the wonderful Alice Walker, is the basis of the track.

We've been feeling urgently compelled to respond somehow to the heavy sociopolitical escalations of late on both sides of the pond. This release is our way of bridging the distances & expressing universal solidarity as human beings. Musically the tune bears similarities to A Tribe Called Quest's jazzy hip hop vibes and Arthur Verocai's Brazilian way of joy and despair all at once.

Produced with the help of Memotone (William Yates), Perpetual is an idiosyncratic mix of live and electronic sounds, which is immediately evident in the glorious opener Me and You, a song that begins simply with pianette and vocals and crescendos into a concoction of brass, strings, vocal harmonies, drum pads, electronic samples and a helicopter. 
The rather perky Perpetual is an uplifting instant classic that you are sure you heard that time you travelled back to 1956 on your gap year - but definitely didn’t. 
The laid back Hippo Love is a dreamy jazz tinged invitation for a lover to make up their bloody mind. 
And lastly, Harp has reduced many a stone-hearted goblin-troll to tears. 
Throw Blue Daisy’s Hawaiian Bass* remix of Hippo Love into the mix and you have a startlingly original EP.

Having been played 3 times by Gideon Coe on BBC 6 Music and made an editor's pick at Indie Shuffle, Teacher seems to be many people's top track from the album. There is a strong Brazilian jazz & psychedelic influence along with a Stereolab-esque indie sensibility and even a bit of Isaac Hayes and David Axelrod in the orchestration. It is a thoroughly organic sound with full horn section, string section, drums, bass and guitar all done live.

The speech is edited from a rather tender talk given to students by James Baldwin at a predominantly Black high school in Oakland, California 1963. On the one hand he highlights the function, importance and value of an education and finding self-worth in a white society. On the other hand there is a universal message about education being a two way street – that as students we must ask questions and as teachers we ought to keep our minds open to learning from those we teach.

Off the back of their Meredith Music Festival 2019 lineup announcement, Melbourne wonky soul four-piece Karate Boogaloo have shared the second piece from their upcoming ‘KB’s Mixtape No. 2’.

This time KB gives us their flip on Mtume’s disco/R&B slow-jam “Juicy Fruit”. It’s a mid-tempo bounce, mellow and light to the touch with sprinkles of oozy synth and slide-guitar throughout.

Composed around a Linn LM-1 drum machine and recorded in under two hours, Mtume’s “Juicy Fruit” has had a lasting impact on the R&B and hip-hop scene with over 100 listed sample uses of the track. Most famously used in Notorious B.I.G’s 1994 hit “Juicy”, Keyshia Cole’s “Let It Go”,  Warren G’s “This D.J” & in Grand Theft Auto’s radio shows.

Following on from the cult success of ‘KB’s Mixtape No. 1’ - songs that were sampled into your favourite hits -, ‘Mixtape No. 2’ expands this theme with songs from the 80s that were sampled into your favourite hits! Out September 27 via Hopestreet Recordings.

Making up the rhythm section of long-time Melbourne soul favourites The Cactus Channel, KB consistently sit in their own lane – the combination of raw musicianship and sheer time on the clock in the studio and on stage gives them a glowing connection rarely seen. His fourth album, musically, 'Listeners' draws from Scrimshire's passion for jazz, soul and electronic music of all styles; from an energetic combination of Afrobeat and garage on 'Won't Get Better', to the lushly orchestrated neo-soul of 'Thru You', and the harmonious jazz experimentations of 'I Never'. The album features a host of esteemed guest vocalists and musicians telling their own personal stories, including Georgia Anne Muldrow, Emma-Jean Thackray, Joshua Idehen, Madison McFerrin, Chip Wickham, and James Alexander Bright.

"With this album I wanted to get a more focused sound after six years of relearning and development in the studio. But I also struggled to find my own words, to speak about where I/we are now. So I allowed my collaborators total freedom to tell their own story and as they came back to me, they were telling the same stories I wanted to. It's resulted in some deeply personal confessional pieces: mourning family, collapsing relationships, extremes of self doubt and analysis, trying to balance public and inner persona, and a reminder that life in all forms is important.

It’s called 'Listeners' as I am a listener here, I feel like I've been given these very personal experiences to care for. Listeners because, the travesty of the last few years is that we stopped listening to each other, everyone is shouting at each other and no one is learning. Since joining the Wah Wah 45s label in 2007, Scrimshire has released three albums of experimental cinematic jazz, and electronic sounds. Following his 2009 debut ‘Along Came The Devil One Night​’, his second album ‘The Hollow’ (2011) was a BBC 6 Music Album of the Week, with Gilles Peterson calling it “A late contender for album of the year”.

In the time since the release of his last album ‘Bight’ (“An eclectic range of influences ranging from disco to fusion to more contemporary electronic styles” XLR8R) in 2013, Adam has worked with long-time musical accomplice Dave Koor on new project Modified Man, and launched Albert’s Favourites releasing projects by The Expansions, Hector Plimmer and Jonny Drop. He has continued to gain radio and DJ support for his successful “Scrimshire Edits” series and has produced and mixed records for artist including Stac, Daudi Matsiko, Bastien Keb, Rōnin Arkestra, Jonny Drop. He has also continued to develop the Wah Wah 45s label, where he is now a co-owner and director.

By incorporating a wide range of voices including MCs, poets, historical speakers and singers into their music, Fold aim to amplify humanitarian perspectives and critical reflections on today’s world. Through doing so they also hope to help keep spaces open for speaking freely and truthfully. Their sound is similarly wide-ranging, from jazz-funk through Brazilian, psyche, hip-hop and downtempo.

Starting in 2012 they’ve managed to cultivate a decent reputation in the underground British music scene. Their music is played on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Radio X, Amazing Radio and stations across the world. Indie Shuffle are big fans and they’ve had features in The Times, The Guardian and The NME. They’ve played shows all over the UK including a live session for Lauren Laverne on BBC 6 Music.

Fold believe that the answers to a sustainable future lie in prioritising the value of life over profits in all decisions. They believe that the success of our species has not been driven by ‘survival of the fittest’ but instead by ‘survival of the most cooperative.’ Our ability to act cooperatively to our mutual benefit, facilitated by our loving natures, is the true foundation of society. These beliefs, are what they bring to every record and every performance.
