Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last decade, there’s a good chance you’ve heard the name Onur Ozman. The Turkish producer who now calls Switzerland home has been serving up deep, complex techno for years, with fantastic EP’s on labels like 303Lovers, Noir Music, Sincopat, and now Yoshitoshi. Compared to the many “business” techno producers of today, it would be impossible to call Onur’s sound formulaic. He incorporates complex, unique sound design that draws from acid, Detroit, and other styles to create something that is singularly his own. Conflicting Stories, his first outing for Yoshitoshi, features three sharp originals that demonstrate Onur’s intense approach to creating quality dance music. The title track combines a plethora of melodic elements which complement each other beautifully, and not in the fanciful, arpeggiated way you hear everywhere today. The track has more in common with classic techno than anything else and has a clear connection to the Yoshi records of the late 90’s. Inside vs Outside sounds like a more contemporary melodic techno track, yet remains very deep and mysterious, making it a great one for the after party. Then we move on to Planet O, a hard-driving acid techno belter that proves Onur can bang it out. The three tracks together create a diverse spread of sound that will surely have something for everyone. It’s a stellar Yoshitoshi debut and we couldn’t be happier to welcome Onur to the label.

Beneath the cloak of darkness his imagination ran wild as fantasies and electric visions flickered and flashed between his ears. These were dreams from another dimension, images being blasted into his awareness from a place far beyond the realms of our understanding and comprehension. This was outer space and the life which existed amidst these far flung planets was nothing like that he'd ever known of down on planet earth. Careering between the stars he dreamt of wild expeditions and cosmic adventures as the elements of a galaxy flashed and fluttered in his dense, populated periphery. This was freedom. 

Mathew Ferness features on a new split EP being released by Live Ones, the record label run by London based producer and dj, Lorca. The release features appearances from Windows, Intr0beatz, Keith Lorraine and Lorca himself.

Party time again at Forms & Figures! Tigerskin returns with three brand new and very danceable tunes fresh from his lab. We start off with ‚Parasite’. Filled with an old school rave bass line and seemingly endless groove, it’s a perfect stomper for the House floor that will hopefully put a smile on peoples faces. With the Rare- Groove influenced ‚Good Flute‘ we dig deeper into an ocean of filters, funky guitars, stings and flutes while with ‚Ain’t a Star’ we return to the cloudy and more classic Tigerskin-Spaciness. 

All tracks mixed by Stefan Janson and mastered by Salz Mastering.

Now I’ve never seen Miami Vice, but I’m thinking if the Japanese had a similar series, this latest offering from Anton Bogomolov (ScruScru), would be perfect as its theme song. Think two detectives, dressed in loud suits roaming around Kyoto fighting crime. From chasing goons down alleyways to following up leads in their flashy convertible, these two are not to be messed with. 

ScruScru hails from Russia and funnily enough he’s created a tune inspired by the warmer months in Kyoto. Most of his work is pieced together through sampling. Be it Soviet symphonic jazz to romantic Russian singers of old, Anton plucks sounds from some fairly unusual places. He tells us that he “tries to structure his music from the get go and not get carried away with improvisation”. 

‘Kyoto Sun’ is a jolly trip. Looped guitar licks and twinkling keys kickstart the track, which are then joined by soaring trumpet and a mysterious Japanese vocal sample (which I’m sure he found via crate digging). The ‘Fuji Editz’ EP (out through our good pals at SlothBoogie), will give you a taste of something a little different. ‘Kyoto Sun’ is like a time warp, you could swear you were sitting in a tiny wooden bar in Japan some 40 years ago, sipping a whisky you’ve never heard of before.
