Fingerpickin' Good

Been working in an odd tuning again (EbADF#ADb), and been meaning to record one of my ideas properly for people to hear... Let me know if there are issues with bass, as it could be my headphones being rubbish and they can't handle it... Hope some people like it, as usual I seem to have better versions when I'm sat in the kitchen without a microphone.. But hey!

Recorded with a Zoom H1 mic and played on my Guild D55.

Yutaka composed an amazing instrumental a few months ago, and asked me to write and play on it. I was immediately captivated by the grandeur of his musical composition, and of course was delighted to collaborate. When I asked Yutaka what he was thinking of as he composed the music, he said "a holy tree". I then researched the beliefs and traditions and mythology of holy trees from both our cultural backgrounds - Japanese and Anglo-Celtic, and had a bash at a bit of haiku!

Well, not dead yet.

Here is my first post for 2018. Honestly, I really thought there wouldn't be one.

This is what happens when I hit record and just play the first thing that enters my head. On that basis I guess it isn't too bad. 

Everything is one take, no mixing and no polish. I kind of like this style of working. No pressure. It is what it is.

The track is just a bit of chant and some rusty slide. Oh yeah, the percussion is me clapping and breathing. I think it is OK. Anyway, not much else to say.

Big Fat Mouth

Played on a capoed 12-string, this was kind of inspired by the spirit of an epic journey. My wife and I took a road trip out West in our old Saturn the first year we were dating and really had an unforgettable and amazing two weeks together, journeying through mainly Montana and Washington. The start of that journey was on Highway 94...
