More new music from one of our favourite labels right now, Mutual Rytm. SHDW & Obscure Shape’s imprint has been consistent source of high grade techno inspired by the 90’s, and their next release from Alarico is just that. The Italian funk master supplies a high octane tribal roller in ‘AE86’ and we can’t get enough of it.

Alarico is on the back of an impressive year of music releases on the likes of Token Records, Hayes and more. The Italian youngster gained a significant amount of traction through his notable self-production only mixes, Alarico is a producer who is on a meteoric rise.

Combining nuances from across the genre to shape his own fast-paced and raw yet soulful sound, the Milan-based talent hasn’t slowed down since launching the alias in 2019. Having featured on the label’s VA ‘Federation Of Rythm I’ earlier this year, he now returns to SHDW and Obscure Shape’s blossoming Mutual Rytm imprint for his first EP on the label – delivering eight cuts across both digital and vinyl for ‘Boya’.

Today we premiere the A1 from Alarico’s ‘Boya’ EP. AE86 set’s the tone with rugged driving grooves, powered through tribal percussion, cheeky vocal hits and rolling low end. This sounds like it’s fresh out an early 00’s rave, as Alarico drives the groove with sharp syncopated rhythms and acute sampling. This is raw and driving funked up techno at it’s finest.

Four Four Premiere: Alarico - AE86 [Mutual Rytm]

We welcome back both Lars Huismann & Mutual Rytm to our premiere series as Lars returns to the label delivering the second instalment of his ‘Sounds From The Past’ trilogy on the imprint. We premiere ‘Nudge’ a militant rolling groove that showcases Lars’s ability to push the limits with tough rhythms and zipping synths.

As SHDW & Obscure Shape’s Mutual Rytm imprint expands and grows it Shape expands and grow’s, the duo’s vision is becoming more apparent, and their core crew of artists affiliated with the label are going from strength to strength. One of the early standouts is Lars Huismann, who came in to produce a variety of powerful performances that drew inspiration from the golden years of techno in his own distinct style created through a variety of production methods.

The Berlin-based artist returns this month with six brand-new tracks for ‘Sounds From The Past II,’ after appearances on the label’s first VA and the first EP for MR002, which garnered a ton of international attention.

Lar’s recent endeveours on various esteemed lables have made him a key player in the Berlin techno scene. Recent releases via labels such as Slam’s iconic Soma as well as featuring on Mutual Rytm, Lars Huismann is quickly growing to become a familiar name of note within today’s modern techno landscape. A immaculate knack for producing raw yet polished grooves have made him an indispensable part of the Mutual Rytm family, and there’s much more to come.

We premiere ‘Nudge’ from the second instalment of his ‘Sounds From The Past’ trilogy. The track see’s Lars fire in a tougher and more rapturous direction as he showcases his ability to tie together tough low-end grooves, while remaining his iconic funky flair. The track is ripe with brisk synth lines and subtle vocal work, making it a striking DJ tool.

Today’s premiere comes courtesy of Greek techno producer Annē as she debuts on Mutual Rytm on the label’s second edition of the Federation Of Rytm compilation. Annē’s track is a deep and murky tool that showcases the producer’s ability to provide menacing rhythms while still remaining fully faithful to the groove.

SHDW & Obscure Shape and Mutual Rytm celebrate their first birthday with an outstanding 3 vinyl pack as their milestone tenth release to date and the second instalment of their Federation of Rytm compilation series.

German producers SHDW & Obscure Shape’s imprint, Mutual Rytm is the pairs most prestigious and cherished project to date. Through their vision and philosophy of music that champions “modern old school techno”, they have been able to display a wealth of aspiring, established & legendary producers who share the same values on techno.

For their 1st anniversary of the label they bring things full circle as they showcase their second instalment of the Federation of Rytm which follows the debut release from label this time last year. Ten records later and SHDW & Obscure Shape bring to life a new compilation which features 22 tracks: 18 cuts spread over 3 vinyls covered with the label’s neat artwork signature, and 4 digital bonus tracks.

We premiere ANNĒ‘s debut feature on the label with her track ‘Blind’ which is one of the darker shades of techno on the compilation as the Greek producer leans on cavernous percsussive textures, lurking vocal growls and infectious low-end rhythms. ANNĒ showcases her ability to supply high grade functional techno, that is frighteningly dishevelled yet totally alluring.

After releasing five sold out various artists EP’s featuring 25 artists, positivesource is excited to present a new chapter for the label with a diverse and anthemic EP from Berlin based producer Regent.

No stranger to the label, Regent contributed to src005 last year with his smooth techno roller ‘Off Agenda’ alongside music from Neri J, Alpha Tracks, Vil & Cravo. His tracks have featured heavily in DJ sets by label founders Blue Hour and Philippa Pacho over the years, naturally the idea to present the first artist EP on positivesource with Regent comes as no surprise. The record starts on a hypnotic tip with ‘Occult’, grooving along with an infectious bass-line swung beats and blissed out atmospherics before stepping up the energy levels on ‘Khmera’, a relentless chord driven percussive anthem with nostalgic vocals rising to new heights. On the flip the title track ‘Aphid Riot’ is bold and vibrant leaning heavily into UK flavours using sliced up vocals, breakbeats and a classic ‘Reece’ bass-line. Completing the record is a ‘broken’ version of ‘Aphid Riot’ highlighting an ethereal tonal melody with a deeper and more introspective take on the original. It’s a new sound exploration from the producer, demonstrating his versatility and perhaps a rare moment in his discography.

The IMF label closes out a superb 2024 with another vital collection of essential techno sounds curated by founder Marcel Fengler. HARDPROOF VA 07 once again follows its vision, bringing together the techno stars of tomorrow with some of the genre's most consistently innovative pioneers. Felicie is shaping modern techno on many different fronts: the Amsterdam-based Frenchwoman has hosted her own Fastgroove Klub project at Rex Club and dropped her hugely intense signature sounds on the likes of Exhale and Mord. Her fantastic 'Komodo' rides on dubbed-out drum loops with scruffy kicks and mind-melting percussive patterns adding to the intensity. It's fast but nuanced and packed with deft designs.
