For our 173rd entry to the Local Selection Mix Series, we welcome Derv. The Dublin based DJ, promoter and co-founder/resident of parties Crane Club and Hidden Love has gifted us with a sensational mix of all things bouncy and booty bass. Strap yourself in. This gets crazy.

Derv boasts recent club supports for international heavyweights X Club, X-Coast and DJ Slugo for their stellar Dublin shows, as well as playing an assortment of Dublin gigs for a range of different parties. Some of these include Crane Club, Hidden Love, Slither, Reboot, Human Error, LTDC (Loose Tooth Dental Club) and more. It is safe to say that you can expect to hear a lot more from Derv in the very near future. 

Derv possesses a mixing style that is swift as she tends to mostly lean into high tempo ghetto-tech tracks. Derv aims to achieve versatility in her mixes and sets through the genres and sounds that she plays, however she mostly focuses on encapsulating sounds of ghetto-tech, ghetto-house and electro whilst wrapping these genres around hard-hitting techno tracks, as well as often using sounds within the house, trance and gabber genres. 

This mix combines twenty jacking ghetto-tech, techno and trance tracks into an hour of high-energy mixing with tracks from some of Derv’s biggest inspirations. Some of which include Von Riu, DJ Fuckoff, Mell G, DJ Assault and Jensen Interceptor. You can also expect tracks from talented Irish producers Ventolin (Oisin Murray) and Fiddy1 (Stephen Burke). The recording lies at just under an hour in length, which showcases Derv’s varied yet unique taste in a truly eloquent way. Sensational.

From his heart-racing productions to resounding mixes and live sets, Alliance founder OTON has found his distinct voice mixing tantalising vocals and compelling grooves, translating his love for music from many influences. After several releases on his own label, OTON now septs up with four playful, wide-eyed tracks that mix well known classics with a maximalist approach. 

Who said we didn’t need another Beyonce edit? OTON proves us all wrong with his club stomping take on ‘Baby Girl’ culminating in music that has serious dancefloor momentum, while keeping things uplifting and memorable. Madonna’s iconic ‘Frozen’ then plays out against the backdrop of acid leads and electro flavoured breakbeat; the overall sound design feels poignant and the lyrics add dramatic melancholy in a cathartic end to the record's A side. 

OTON doubles down on our dopamine receptors with ‘Hump’. The tracks' propulsive bass and fast moving kickdrums are submerged in pink hued synths that move like lasers before ‘Juicy’ closes the show with a jittery workout that could be used to make any crowd get down.

Berlin based producer Estella Boersma announced themselves with a debut on Unknown to the Unknown’s Dance Trax imprint and a string of appearances in the infamous HOR bathroom have followed – including one at Crave Festival – generating a positive stream count thanks to their varied DJing style; floating between techno, bass, breaks, electro and old school rave.

Now debuting on Lobster Theremin, Estella serves up four assorted club cuts that perfectly exemplify the energy felt front-left at one of their sets.

‘The Wave’ is the most quintessential Estella track on the release – brimming with acid, breakbeats and warehouse rave energy, channelling older XL Recordings-inspired sounds and modern-punk electronic aesthetics. ‘Dial’ is frantic, stripped-back and raw - an angelic, colourful techno trip through pixelated palm trees and psychedelic sunrises.

‘Transfer’ drains the colour from its fabric as light turns to dark. Headsy, underground appeal blends with bouncy fun on a cut of wobbly 4x4 that sounds like something you might hear in a Chloe Robinson set, before high pitched-vocals and sped-up synths dazzle and delight with something that sits between techno, footwork and classic Chicago house.

We premiere our second track of the week today, as we feature brand new techno from Limerick native DJ and producer MELTX, as she drops her self-released track ‘These Streets’ on Bandcamp today.

Hailing from Limerick, and already having left her mark on Dublin and Paris, MELTX’s is proving one to watch. After kick-starting her career in 2020 off the back of self-releasing a number of tracks, she has gone on to have a very busy year supporting acts and headlining shows up and down the country, and supporting acts such as Dyen, I Hate Models and Tommy Holohan.

The budding artist produces high-end club tracks filled with brutal percussion and originality. Matching the energy of her own productions, MELTX provides a healthy collection of mixes with pumping selections and clean technique, with labels both at home and abroad keen to see more from the aspiring new artist.

‘These Streets’ is a low rise thumper, full of attitude featuring a hooky vocal that sets the tone. You can pick up the release via Bandcamp.
