My First Remix! My First 'Normal' Vocal Track! My First Tune Done Entirely on my Laptop!

A lot of firsts, and my favourite song yet! I'm entering this into a Remix competition. Link to original song by Fox Grin is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXQIm4BpAbI

As you will hear immediately, the Remix sounds VERY different from the original, even though the vocal and the bass line are left almost *totally* intact. Lots of fun!! The vocal is amazing, the bass sound is excellent too, if anybody is into competitions you should check this out as there is still a month before closing and the stems are amazing, and *diverse* because there are 3 different songs included in the competition - all by Fox Grin.

I think that Remixes may become a 'thing' for me! This was really fun.

I'm also very happy that my Laptop kept up no problem, and this is a pretty busy track. The whole thing was done using Reaper, with two instances of NI Battery in charge of the drums. 3 Audio tracks playing the stems, and a few extra snippets of the vocal stem for compositional purposes, 2 Korg Wavestation VSTs (I *love* the organic/electro hybrid sounds on that synth - they are the workhorse on this track) as well as an instance of NI Massive and the pad sound is NI Avbsynth. Not to mention a generous sprinkling of NI Guitar Rig FX (lots of reverbs!), oh - and Fab Filter Pro Q is basically all over the place as well. The laptop occasionally hiccups with all of this going on, which would be devastating live, but not enough to even be annoying for the sake of what I'm doing here, making a remix, on Christmas Vacation with the family in North Ontario.

Also, with it being December 31st I have to say that I'm *very* happy with what I've accomplished this year!! I'm so appreciative of the encouragement and the comments and the listens. This wouldn't be very much fun in a vacuum. My goal in 2014 is to keep on cranking out new ones, get a little better at it with each one, and to start making this a more *social* endeavor. Not sure what that looks like exactly, but starting to build tracks with other people, getting into mutual coaching situations with other people in the learning stage... maybe doing some blogging and gear reviews. Who knows? Right now I'm just sort of wide open and loving it! Going to be working through the 'Start Now Finish Fast' program with Mike Monday in the new year, and that should help get me pointed in the right direction. I recommend for anybody interested in making music to check his stuff out. His material has been hugely instrumental in getting me going on all of this! Ok for now, until the next one... haha!
