I gave this homily on Dec. 23,2017: Gospel reading proper for Dec. 23rd and Dec. 24th (morning Mass); Ordinary form of the Roman Catholic Mass; 8:00 AM Saturday Mass in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary at St. John's in Rapids City.  I'm not a total Grinch.  I'm not totally against singing Christmas songs.  We know that it was a Christmas Song that finally caused the Grinch's heart to enlarge.  And sometimes a jolly Christmas song can lighten up the mood. However, I still think that some Christmas songs are more worth our singing. Yesterday, I covered the Song of Mary.  In this recording, I covered the Song of Zechariah, also known as the Benedictus.  Being Saturday, a day in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, I showed the connection between the Song of Mary and the Song of Zechariah.  I also made the point that the Song of Zechariah should be the "fight song" for our parish, being we claim St. John the Baptist to be our patron saint.
