Let's meet our dj for episode 471, Dj Sofa;
Helsinki based producer DJ Sofa continues to be a force to be wreck-end with in the Jungle scene. Starting off producing HipHop, House and UKG since 2012, this self taught producer quickly found her love for Jungle and Hardcore beats. With some solid DNB releases on Midnight Sun Recordings, Sofa's jungle flavours on Midnight Sun and Straight up Breakbeat found the ears of some the scenes best jungle connoisseurs. Sofa has had support from the likes of Tim Reaper, Coco Bryce, Mantra, Flight and plays on BBC Radio 1.
She made her UK debut at top London Jungle night - Rupture, and has since been back for Tim Reaper's night Future Retro, also with a forthcoming release in the bag!
In Finland, Sofa is a resident for Straight Up Breakbeat and VOM and when she's not writing beats, you can find her hosting a monthly radio show on IDA Helsinki called 'Rough Around The Edges'
With forthcoming vinyl releases on staple labels such as Myor, and Future Retro, Sofa has made a huge impact on the Jungle scene already and continues to flourish as a producer.

0860.fm INTERVIEW #1 - BRYAN GEE

Today on 0860.fm we have Dextrous. A proper goosebumps one for me this - his Jungle tracks in the early 90s were always some of my faves. Including Kings Of The Jungle, Selector Roll and Time To Move. 

We talk about how Pirate Radio gave him insight and exposure to Rare Groove, a genre that he took influence from to create his Jungle tracks that would then go on to get rinsed on Pirate Radio and influence younger generations such as myself. We discuss his relationship with communities from Kool FM, to Music House, through to his work on the documusical ‘Feltham Sings’ in 2003 for which he won the prestigious Ivor Novello award.

Very excited to present the next guest in the series - The unstoppable DJ Mantra. At this point she needs little introduction but if you don’t know she - along with partner Double O - is responsible for what has become London’s premier Jungle night - Rupture. They’re actually just about to celebrate their 16th year running. It’s a grass roots event and community and this extends to her work with EQ50 - a collective of women working towards fairer representation within drum and bass.

A real pleasure to talk to and we discuss how she was introduced to Pirate Radio by over-hearing her older brother listening to stations in his bedroom and how she started off her fascination with it all as a garage raver. She’s just someone who is so in touch with grass roots and the building of communities - and these are topics that come up time and time again in this chat.

As a producer, DJ and label owner Charlie Fieber continues to be an important figure in the development and innovation of UK electronic music genres with a career spanning over two decades. As Fracture, Fieber’s output is prolific and never stands still. From the hyper sped up Techno sound of Turbo to the genre blending Footwork Jungle collaborations with Teklife regulars DJ Earl, DJ Spinn and DJ Taso. He is constantly experimenting and flipping the script and 2022 saw the release of the world building Ambient Electro album Omura with Sam Binga. Releases and affiliations have come from some of the UK’s legendary hardcore continuum labels such as Goldie’s Metalheadz, dBridge’s Exit records, where in 2016 Fieber was part of the mysterious Richie Brains supergroup with fellow experimenters Alix Perez, Chimpo, Fixate, Om Unit, Sam Binga and Stray, and more recently with Alix Perez’s 1985 which saw the curveball collaboration with Kenyan artist Nah Eeto. Fieber’s latest work is his most ambitious to date; '0860’ is an album, radio station and interview series that explores the history and legacy of Pirate Radio and its importance in the development of UK underground music.
As a DJ his sound has travelled with appearances on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Boiler Room, Fact Mag, Rinse FM, Keep Hush and multiple US, EU, UK and Asia tours. 
In 2009 the label, Astrophonica, was set up as an output for his own music with Neptune and has since become a home for other like minded and experimental artists such as Sully, Client_03 and Moresounds. Fieber’s impeccable A&R has led to a flawless and in demand back catalogue championed from Annie Mac to Sherelle and with multiple nominations in DJ Mag’s Best Of British awards.
