In this episode I’ll be speaking with Missing aka Sam Gordon. Sam had one of the biggest pirate radio tracks I can remember in 1995 with The Box Reopens on Kemet Records - A remix of a track originally by Noise Factory. Honestly, I heard this track so much on the airwaves back then and it got me thinking, did it get as much play in the clubs and thus did pirate radio offer a space for tracks to grow and gain an audience outside of clubs. 

This turned out to be a really fascinating conversation and we discussed his unique approach to expensive studio time in the 90s - which included literally writing out drum patterns on paper to save time. We talk about the political climate at the end of the 80s and into the 90s that may have been the breeding ground for the DIY and punk nature of Pirate Radio and we end up drawing similarities between Jungle and the current sound of UK Drill.

Representing real drum and bass at it’s finest, Mantra’s deep and emotive sound in the mix comes from an intense passion for the music. Conscious of the history of the music she loves yet always looking to push things forward, she’s no newcomer and her involvement with drum and bass runs much deeper than just a hobby. Having worked for record distributers SRD as well as promoting her own regular club night, Rupture, she’s learnt from the ground up and built a solid foundation on which she continues to grow.
The success of Rupture stands testament to Mantra’s hard work and commitment, and that of her partner Double-O. Borne of a desire to take it back to basics, Rupture has gone from strength to strength with original line ups that combine the best new DJs alongside some of the underground’s leading lights. The night has built up over the past 10 years to form what is now recognized as London’s best underground dnb night. 
Her productions have been supported by dBridge, Loxy, Flight, Storm amongst others. With releases line up on AKO, Repertoire, UVB-76 and Rupture LDN Mantra’s productions are set to keep moving forward in 2018.

As a producer, DJ and label owner Charlie Fieber continues to be an important figure in the development and innovation of UK electronic music genres with a career spanning over two decades. As Fracture, Fieber’s output is prolific and never stands still. From the hyper sped up Techno sound of Turbo to the genre blending Footwork Jungle collaborations with Teklife regulars DJ Earl, DJ Spinn and DJ Taso. He is constantly experimenting and flipping the script and 2022 saw the release of the world building Ambient Electro album Omura with Sam Binga. Releases and affiliations have come from some of the UK’s legendary hardcore continuum labels such as Goldie’s Metalheadz, dBridge’s Exit records, where in 2016 Fieber was part of the mysterious Richie Brains supergroup with fellow experimenters Alix Perez, Chimpo, Fixate, Om Unit, Sam Binga and Stray, and more recently with Alix Perez’s 1985 which saw the curveball collaboration with Kenyan artist Nah Eeto. Fieber’s latest work is his most ambitious to date; '0860’ is an album, radio station and interview series that explores the history and legacy of Pirate Radio and its importance in the development of UK underground music.
As a DJ his sound has travelled with appearances on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Boiler Room, Fact Mag, Rinse FM, Keep Hush and multiple US, EU, UK and Asia tours. 
In 2009 the label, Astrophonica, was set up as an output for his own music with Neptune and has since become a home for other like minded and experimental artists such as Sully, Client_03 and Moresounds. Fieber’s impeccable A&R has led to a flawless and in demand back catalogue championed from Annie Mac to Sherelle and with multiple nominations in DJ Mag’s Best Of British awards.
