"5" is a 4 track EP, a deeply personal work that deals with the death of my mother to cancer 10 years ago. This project represents a therapeutic approach to my feelings, both good and bad, and an attempt to express it in music.

on "5", i wrote a song for each of four stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression). the 5th stage, acceptance, is still in the future.

Candrin's Theme - The Vagrant

This song languished on my hard drive for the last 2-3 albums. It took me until this one to figure out what I wanted to do with it. It's pretty different from the rest of the HardSpeed stuff, but I have a rule for myself with Hardspeed; "Don't be boring." That entails using all this retro-style equipment to not just do one genre (say, Synthwave,) but to do anything I can think of. So, here's a shmup-style song.

Planet Viper

Original name was going to be "Obnoxious Pizza Boogie" and was going to have obnoxious voice samples relating to pizza but completely changed it. This has been, "Trivia That No One Asked For!"

The Cave Dwellers of the northern Badlands were an ancient race, and after Toho and Otoh. mingled with them for a while, they tell of an ancient floating island that hovers high in the sky, rumored to be the key to finding the Tune. Supposedly, the path to the island rests in the Eastern Ocean, the team’s next destination. After arriving at the sea, the sky becomes reflected with the waters… Suddenly Toho and Otoh are deep below the ocean's surface, looking up at the glassy reflection of the water itself! They press onwards, deep into the azure fog ahead…
