On a journey at sea, Alex's ship was caught in a violent storm that caused it to crash onto an isolated island. The island seemed serene and beautiful at first, but Alex soon discovered that it was inhabited by hordes of zombies.

Stranded and fearful, Alex took refuge in an abandoned cabin on the island. The cabin had a small recording studio, equipped with instruments and recording equipment left behind by a previous occupant. It was here that Alex decided to make music as a means to cope with the loneliness and the constant threat of the zombies lurking outside.

Every day, Alex would create melodies, harmonies, and rhythms that resonated with the emotions and experiences of being trapped on the island. The music became a form of communication between Alex and the zombies, bridging the gap between their worlds. Alex hoped that through music, a connection could be established, even with the undead.

As time passed, something remarkable began to happen. The zombies, who were once mindless and consumed by hunger, gradually became more aware and responsive to the music. They would gather around the cabin, their hollow eyes fixated on Alex as the melodies filled the air.

The music seemed to touch a dormant part of their souls, evoking memories of their former lives. Some would sway gently, as if dancing to the rhythm, while others would hum along with the melodies. It was as if the music had temporarily restored their humanity, offering solace amidst their existence as undead beings.

Inspired by this unexpected connection, Alex composed music that aimed to uplift the spirits of the zombies. The melodies carried hope, love, and a sense of longing for a better existence. They became a beacon of light in the darkness, reminding the zombies of their humanity and the beauty of life that still lingered within them.

Eventually, the music began to affect the zombies beyond the confines of the island. The melodies carried on the wind, reaching the ears of people on nearby boats and ships. Intrigued by the hauntingly beautiful music, brave individuals ventured onto the island to investigate its origin.

As they arrived, they witnessed the incredible sight of zombies captivated by the music, their violent nature subdued by the power of melody. Together with Alex, they realized that music had the ability to heal even the most broken souls.

In the end, the island transformed from a place of despair into a sanctuary of music and hope. The melodies composed by Alex resonated with the zombies, reminding them of their shared humanity. And as the music spread beyond the island, it brought forth a newfound understanding that even in the most unlikely circumstances, the universal language of music could bring unity and transformation.

And so, the tale of Melodies of the Undead Isle became legend, a testament to the power of music in connecting hearts, transcending barriers, and transforming the world, even in the most unexpected places.

Since early 00s DJ Yudetaro/UDT (@motoyama-hiroyuki) has performed as a DJ in various underground venues in Tokyo. He loves mixing sounds that span across various genres from Techno/House, reggae/world music to avangarde/drone, and recently is interested in Ambient/Experimental music that blends seamlessly with the environment and atmosphere. Now he hold a party regularly at a beach house on the beautiful seashore in Miura-city, Kanagawa. He offered mixes to Born Free in 2019 and Rinse France in 2021.

“This mix was intended to be played at a music festival called 'Mach 1' on the land of the Djab Wurrung and Jardwardjali people in Australia, but was cancelled due to bushfires. 
In the mix, there is a meditation I wrote referencing bushfires in Gariwerd Country, and a unique mushroom (Pyronema Omphalodes) which only appears after a bushfire. 
Fire is an integral part of the Australian landscape, with many species depending on it for reproduction. However, the Western way that land is managed, in combination with climate change, means catastrophic bushfires are becoming more frequent. 
Aboriginal knowledge of caring for Country needs to be tapped into to reduce the devastation that bushfires bring. Cultural burning means applying fire in a way that is best for the entire ecosystem, not just for people, but for animals, plants, and fungi. Visit firesticks.org.au to learn more.
